After Saint Ann's intentionally walked Nico M. for the second time, Ethan S. made them pay with a 2-RBI single to put BFS up for good. The BFS Girls Varsity Softball Team defeated Garden 17-4 in Sunset Park at Bush Terminal. Rain, rain, go away, the Panthers want to play today. After a couple days of rain there was finally just enough of a break so the team could take the field and continue their development. The nine girls who attended the game were ready to get back to action. Freshman Nicole A. took the mound once again. She would pitch to her battery mate Fiona B. Senior leader Ivy L. was at first base, newcomer Alyssa W. was at second base, Margaret C. was at shortstop and Amanda B. rounded out the infield at third base. Gena T. was in right field, Emma S. was in center, and Merry was in left field. The team and the coaches were ready to go. Their opponent Garden was just playing their second game of the season, while BFS was playing their seventh. Nicole threw strike to start the game and the leadoff hitter lined one right back to Nicole who snared it. Then a walk set things up for Garden's three hitter who is extremely talented. She worked the count and Nicole threw her one over the plate to try to close out the at bat, but #19 blasted one into the outfield for a two run home run. BFS came right back and Alyssa made a solid play at second and Nicole helped her self out fielding a grounder off the mound with Ivy registering both put outs. BFS needed to jump out on the offensive side of things, but our leadoff hitter went down looking, followed by two dribblers to the pitcher who calmly threw over to first to retire bFS one, two, three. BFS stepped things up in the second inning as Nicole threw strikes. Alyssa made a nice play on a liner, Nicole picked up two strikeouts. During the bottom half of the inning Amanda picked up a key lead off hit. Alyssa walked, Margaret picked up a hit, followed by and RBI hit by Emma. Some aggressive base running assisted BFS' attack. Merry, our second lead off batter walked and set up the base loaded for our lead off hitter Nicole who blasted a grand slam to give BFS a 5-2 lead. Nicole continued her proficient pitching throwing strikes and picking up outs. BFS gave up one run and found them selves up 5-3 going into the bottom of the third inning. Our three hitter Ivy started things off with a lead off hit, a few walks, another hit by Margaret and before you knew it BFS has Nicole up again with the bases loaded. She picked up a two RBI single to help her cause. The Panthers sent up 12 batters to the plate and picked up eight more runs to open things up at 13-3. Another great defensive inning for BFS as they allowed only one run in the top of the fourth inning. Margaret led the bottom of the fourth off with her third hit of the game. Freshman Gena and Merry walked to load the bases with one out and Nicole stepped up. And step up she did, Nicole blasted her third hit of the game to the outfield picking up her second home run which was also a grand slam to tally 10 total RBI's as BFS knocked off their opponent 17-4 in Sunset Park. Everyone contributed to the victory. This was a key victory for the team as they continue their playoff push and strive for their goal. The team enjoyed the beautiful few of the city as they walked along the waterfront heading back to the team bus. Next up for the team is a second match up with league rival Churchill on Monday. Keep up the good work! Blue Pride Runs Deep, Friends Forever!!

4/19/17

On Tuesday the BFS Girls Varsity Softball Team defeated Churchill 10-4 out on Randalls Island. It was the teams first win of the season. What a day and what a game. This was a real softball game. Both teams played extremely well. Everyone involved had a great time. With other high school and local college teams playing around us we felt we made it to the big time. The team huddled up and went into action. Freshman pitcher Nicole A. took the hill. Junior Fiona B. was behind the plate. Senior captain Ivy L. was at first base, fellow senior Anna W. was at second base, while freshman Maya H. got the start at shortstop, and junior Amanda B. was at third base. In the outfield BFS had freshmen Fadila started in Left field (sophomore Alyssa subbed in later), Emma S. in left center, Sammy H. in right center, and Gena T. in right field, and Anique was there for support. BFS was up first and were able to score an early run on some very aggressive base running by senior leader Ivy L. BFS gave one back in the bottom half of the inning, so the game was all tied up at one after one inning of play. BFS went down one, two, three in the second inning. While Churchill threatened but BFS didn't break. Churchill started off with a hit, followed by walk (HBP), but then third base woman Amanda made a great play and hustled over to the bag for the important first out force out. Then Ivy made a play at first base on liner and Nicole closed things out throwing a strike over to Ivy to end the threat and inning. BFS went down one, two, three again during the third inning. Churchill picked up a go ahead run and threatened some more but BFS closed the door again. BFS had the top of the order back up to start the fourth and Nicole helped herself with a leadoff hit (ended up stealing home), Ivy too came up with a hit batting out of the three whole, and then with two outs Maya picked up a key hit and RBI to put BFS back on top 3-2. Churchill added another run and tied the game at three after four innings of play. In the fifth inning Gena worked her way on base and Nicole once again helped her cause with a big two out RBI Double. Nicole got better and better as the game went one as she calmly threw strike after strike and fielded all the balls that came her way. She retried Churchill one, two, three with a little help from her friends. Second base woman Anna W. had her best game in her new position fielding everything that came her way and throwing over to her friend Ivy at first base. This was still a nail biter and both teams were battling and working hard. BFS was up 4-3 but anything could happen with two inning to play. Ivy led off the fifth inning with a blast to left field, it was a true Home Run. BFS breathed a sigh of relief and now they were ready to turn things up. Amanda picked up a nice hit, followed by a walk from Maya. Fiona put it in play and picked up an RBI, while Sammy also put it in play and helped the cause. Emma and Gena had key walks to move the order along, this meant BFS would have their top of the order to start the final inning. So it was now 7-3 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. Nicole got the first batter to pop up and Ivy and Anna both went for it but the ball ended up falling out and dropping to the floor. The girls gathered and maintained their composure and Nicole just kept throwing strikes (no walks during the game). Anna, or Werther like we like to call her, made another key play at second to get the first out, followed by two very nice plays by Nicole who three to her partner Ivy at first. The Panthers had their sights on closing out this game and coming away with the victory but anything could still happen. Nicole led off the top of the seventh with a hit, Ivy had another big hit, Amanda walked, Maya walked again, and Fiona and Sammy put it in play again. Three more insurance runs! BFS was now up 10-4. Three more our, three more outs!! Nicole was in the zone, she fired in strike after strike to her battery mate Fiona and the fist girl went down looking and the second girl went down swinging. Two outs, one more to go. Nicole threw a strike and there was aground ball to third and Amanda calmly fired over to Ivy at first to close things out and secure the victory. Oh what a feelin'.... That was one to remember. Way to go team! Blue Pride Runs Deep, Friends Forever! Blue Pride!!

The BFS Boys Varsity Baseball Team defeated Churchill 8-3 at Red Hook. It was the teams second consecutive victory. Senior Emmitt S. took the mound and looked good early. He helped himself out at the plate knocking in the first runs of the game in the bottom half of the first inning. The Panthers are starting to see progress as they broke five bats on their way to scoring eight runs in a big win. They look to win their third straight on Thursday as they take on LREI for the second time this season. Way to go team! Blue Pride!!

4/14/17

On Thursday the BFS Boys Varsity Baseball team defeated LREI 6-3 down at Red Hook. BFS, seeking it's first win, was excited to have their first game on their home field in Red Hook. Senior Brendan G., took the mound and started out hot, striking out two to open the game. The Panthers, behind the crafty senior, found their bats getting hot as well, knocking in two early runs. The early season jitters came back as a couple of errors helped their opponent come back and tie the game, but Brendan continued to stay focused and did a wonderful job of getting out of some tight pinches. Brendan pitched a solid 4 innings and was replaced by Ethan K-L, a very promising young pitcher. He maintained his composure and pitched very well. Brendan helped his young pitcher out by taking charge behind the plate and throwing out four base runners to finish as the Player of the Game. The Team picked up their first win of the young season, a league win. Long time Coach Jake Pitari along with new assistant Peter Soto, enjoyed the win and saw some very strong improvements that team has made since starting the season. Watch out, here come the Panthers! The BFS Girls Varsity Basketball Team lost to York Prep 43-23 in the ISAL Semifinals in the city at York Prep. BFS reached it goal at the beginning of the season to get back to the Playoffs. The team suited up nine players. The team started senior leader, point guard Ivy L., two guard fellow senior Fatima E-L, junior Kasey J. at the three, and freshman stars Libby S. at the four and Salma M. at the five. BFS knew what their opponent was bringing to the table as these two teams faced off a week ago at BFS. During that game BFS was able to work and fight to get the score all tied up at 17-17 at the half. Once again this time BFS came out a little flat even though we knew what to expect. We had our troubles inbounding the ball and worked to correct things. We also took several very good shots but nothing was falling, they were actually go in and out. But the best thing about these girls and this team was they continued to work and fight and did not pay any real attention to the scoreboard as their opponents lead grew. Before you knew it BFS was down 17-1. But we ere playing we were doing things right, we just weren't getting the ball in the basket. As our defense picked up and our overall intensity grew we came alive and really started to produce. Before you knew it we found ourselves in a real game and down 24-14 in the third quarter. BFS was doing a very good job containing their opponents center, as well as located their paint guard and shooting guard. Junior Rosemary D-C and senior Lexi S. came off the bench and played solid defense and got involved in each and every play. Our bench which consisted of our Coaches, freshmen Anique E. and Fadila S., along with Emma S. and a fan kept their positive cheering going which infused our team. I am so proud of our girls and how they came together and played as a team in this playoff game. It was a true pleasure to watch and to be a part of. Ivy finished with 7 points, 179 for the season, and what a great season it was for Ivy. Fellow senior guard Fatima E-B played one of her best games of her career. She brought the energy on defense. Salma led the way with 10 points, including a great three pointer from the top of the key with a friendly roll. Salma also stepped up and played some quality minutes at point guard against the opponents press. Kasey had 4 points and was a strong presence on defense. Rosemary and Libby each chipped in with a free throw apiece, while playing sold defense as well. Anique and Fadila closed things out and excited for next year as their minutes and play will definitely increase. The team ended up coming up short in the game but not short on memories. Thanks to everyone involved in this season. We as a team doubled our win total from last year and returned to the ISAL League Playoffs. I truly hope everyone learned throughout this season both on and off the court. I will always appreciate the girls efforts and wish them all the best in everything they do on and off the court. Blue Pride Runs Deep, Friends Forever!! Blue Pride!!

2/9/17

On Wednesday the BFS US Boys & US Girls Varsity Swim Teams participated in an ISAL Meet at Leman Prep. It was the teams third swim meet of the season for BFS. We had two participants, Ben F. and Keith H. Ben and Keith had a spectacular meet, swimming in their individual events. Ben swam the 50 freestyle, he came 1st in his heat with the time of 24.01 seconds. In addition he swam the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke. In both events 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke Ben came 1st in his heat with time of 59.72 seconds in the backstroke and 1:13.25 seconds in breaststroke. Keith did exceptionally well with this being his third meet. He swam the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. In the 50 freestyle he placed 1st in his heat with the time of 29.49 seconds, in his heat for the 100 breaststroke he placed 3rd with time of 1:49.39. They had a great time! Way to go! Blue Pride!

The BFS MS Boys Basketball Team defeated Packer 38-33 on the road a few blocks away. On the line for the team was the chance to sweep this seasons local Brooklyn Heights rivals, which includes St. Ann's, Brooklyn Heights Montessori and the aforementioned Packer. Both the Panthers and PCI settled into a half-court game, which made the matchup a low-scoring affair. Scoring was hard to come by throughout and Packer took a small two point lead into halftime at 17-15. In the third-quarter PCI added to their lead and found themselves up 27-19 to start of the fourth quarter. They eventually lead by ten with five minutes to play. The Panthers however had one more surge in them and suddenly the high scoring offense returned. And although they trailed by eight with three minutes left in the game, they began to run a very effective full court press, nailed a couple of big threes and made all three of their free throws down the stretch. The Panthers outscored PCI 19-6 in the fourth and when the final buzzer sounded it was am exciting 38-33 BFS victory. The team was led by the point guard tandem of Mirembe M-T (8th) and Alex B. (7th), each scoring nine points. Mirembe also added 2 assists and led the team in rebounding with 8 boards and steals with 6. Nico M. (8th) led the team in assists with 3. But the biggest contribution of the game possibly came in the waning moments when Nick Mc (8th) took an offensive rebound up for a two point conversion to tie the game at 33-33 and draw a foul for a chance to take the lead from the free throw line. He would go on to convert the free throw and give the Panthers the lead for good. For evidence of the teams growth over the course of the season, look no further than the free-throw percentage from the first game of the season. A one point loss to Berkeley Carroll where the team went 9 of 17 (52%) from the free-throw line. Fast forward to the second to last game of the season a nailbiting five point win over Packer where the team hit 5 of 7 (71%) free throws, including going 3 for 3 in the fourth quarter with the game on the line. Today's victory improved the teams overall record to 11-3. BFS wraps up the season when they travel to Bay Ridge Prep on Monday. Blue Pride!!

2/10/17

The team rushed out to a commanding 17-0 run and never looked back, leading the game from start to finish. BFS led 21-8 at the half. With their teams stifling defense, York struggled to score, scoring just 10 points in first three quarters. The Panthers were led by seniors Brendan G. who scored 20 points (1,047 for his career), had 6 rebounds, and 3 assists, while fellow senior Charlie S. had 9 points, 9 rebounds, 10 steals, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Freshmen Jovan R. scored 6 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, had 2 Assists, and 3 steals. Seniors Maalik D. and Isaac H. played incredible interior defense. Their heart and determination could not be matched. Maalik scored 4 points, picked up 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Sophomores Jailen L., Kwesi S., Luca J., and Oliver S. all played very well in the big game! Jailen scored 2 points, with 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Oliver came off the bench to score 4 points and had 2 rebounds, including an amazing rebound put-back off a teammate missed shot. Way to go team!! York Prep started to make a run towards the end of the 3rd quarter, but after Charlie's corner 3 pointer in front of our bench at the buzzer, it helped contain the York's run. The Panthers dominated the rebounding department with a 38 to 26 advantage, while committing only 9 turnovers to York's 21 turnovers. The Panthers also did a good job in the assist department as they had 17 Assists. Thanks to all the Players, Coaches, Team Managers, Fans, and to everyone who made this success a Championship one. We are the Champions....Blue Pride Runs Deep, Friends Forever!! Blue Pride!!

On Monday the BFS Girls Varsity Basketball Team defeated Bay Ridge Prep 34-13 on the road at Aviator. BFS only had six girls available to make the trip out to Aviator. This was the teams first game ever at this facility. Thanks to freshman Emma S. for also making the trip and doing the scorebook for the game. The coaches did not know what to expect but as always we were hoping for the best. Upon arrival we realized that both teams had only six available players so this would be a very interesting game. This was a large court and our team needed to be ready to get up and down. We went over some key points during our pregame speech and set up our offense and defensive plans of attack. Senior leader and point guard Ivy L. was up for the challenge. She had fellow senior Fatima E-B by her side, along with junior Rosemary D-L-C,and freshmen Libby, S., Anique E., and Fadila S. BFS jumped out early and looked good on both ends of the court. The Panthers took a 7-3 lead with Ivy scoring 5 points and Libby chipping in with a basket. BRP had a shooter #1 so BFS needed to locate her and keep a hand in her face. She was able to unload one three point make during the first quarter. BRP came out and knocked down an early three and made a free throw to tie things up at seven early in the second quarter. Ivy was able to knock down a three of her own and Libby added two more baskets for BFS. BFS continued to play solid defense, rebound the ball, and control the tempo. BFS found themselves up 14-7 at the half. The six girls were working hard and only good things can happen when you are working hard. BFS continued to talk strategy and hoped some of their good looks at the basket would now find their way through the net. Hoping for a better second half BFS came out strong and turned up the defense. Their opponent quickly knocked down another three to make it 14-10, but Ivy came right back down the court and knocked down a tough three pointer to give BFS a comfortable lead again. From there it was pretty much all BFS as they worked, and worked some more. The defense was solid as they keyed in on their opponents best shooter and got their hands in the passing lane. On offense BFS pushed the ball up the court and moved the ball around and got everyone good looks and great shots. It was a true team effort. Ivy poured in seven more points during the third quarter and BFS found themselves now up 21-13 going into the final quarter of play. BFS did not stop there, they played a tremendous fourth quarter as they continued their solid play on both ends of the court. Everyone touched the ball and put up some great shots. Ivy had four more points, Rosemary ad four points, and Anique had the shot of the game, a perfect three right in front of our bench, nothing but net. BFS held their opponent scoreless during the final quarter of play as the tam went on a 17-0 run to close things out. Ivy led the way with one of her best overall games of her career tallying 20 points. Libby finished with 6 points, Rosemary 4 points, and Anique had that memorable three pointer. Fatima did a fantastic job on defense, as well as running the court on offense, and getting up some very good shots during the second half run. And Fadila did a good job spelling her friend and teammate Anique throughout the game. Thanks to everyone who contributed tot today's success. Way to go team. On Wednesday the BFS Girls Varsity Basketball Team defeated Churchill 40-36 in the lower gym. The team picked up its first win of the season. The victory was Coach David Gardell'a 100th career Girls Varsity Basketball coaching victory. What a game....Blue Pride!! BFS once again got off to a fantastic start. The team jumped out on their opponent and took a 12-3 lead into the second quarter. Senior star athlete Halima M. scored 6 quick points. This is only her second career high school game, after opening the season to lead all scorers the previous day with 19 total points. She is an incredible athlete. At a few points during the game she dribbled through everyone who came at her as the crowed cheered and was in awe of her natural abilities. Fellow senior Ivy L., our point guard and team captain added a bucket, as well as freshman Selma M. BFS played a solid second quarter, after using numerous timeouts to work on breaking the opponents press, and maintained their nine point lead. At the half BFS led 20-11. BFS felt good going into the second quarter. But one of the reasons we play sports is because we never truly know the outcome. BFS came out flat to open up the second half. The starters struggled to inbound the ball and get it down the out. The coach sensed something needed to be done. Having only one timeout left because the officials did not know the rule and stated we only get five timeouts instead of 6 total timeouts the Coach had to take a different plan of action. Instead of using the teams final timeout (according to the officials) the Coach pulled all five starters and put in a different unit at the six minute mark. That second unit came in and did a fantastic job settling things down and regaining the teams composure. BFS now found themselves down after a blink of the eye run by their opponent but BFS was not about to give up on the game on their home court. The starters came back on the court after setting down on the watching and watching what needed to be done. BFS scored and the fans were back in the game. BFS scored again and now they were right back in it with the momentum switching back to their side. BFS found themselves down by three points going into the final quarter of play after their opponents outscored the Panthers 16-4. BFS turned things up during the fourth quarter. They kept battling and and working towards their goal of their first win of the season, Coaches 100th. It wasn't easy as BFS missed numerous shots, including numerous lay ups. They were going so fast it was hard for the players and the team to slow down to finish on their lay ups. Coach knew as long as they kept shooting that at some point the shots would fall, but would they fall in enough time to pull out the thrilling come from behind victory. BFS scored 14 total points in the final quarter of play and took the lead for good around the one minute mark. Halima added 7 fourth quarter points to give her 14 total points for the game, to go along with 8 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists. BFS was up three and Church had the ball. Church got a good look from the corner on a three that just missed. Halima grabbed the rebound and was fouled. She went to the foul line to try to close things out. She took a deep breathe and made the first one to give BFS the four point lead. Selma finished with 8 points, Ivy had 4 points, and senior guard Silvely A. who played her first game of the young season had 10 points. Fellow senior guard Fatima E-B had two key assists in the game. Freshman Libby S. played a solid game, along with junior Kasey J. who had a key basket. Freshman Kennedy W. played some solid defense during her minutes on the court, along with senior Lexi S. and junior Rosemary D-L-C. This was definitely a team victory. Thanks to everyone who contributed to todays success'. Way to go Team!! Congrats to all the players and Coaches....Its a true pleasure to coach these student-athletes. Number 100 was not easy, Coach broke a sweat, but it was well worth it and extremely memorable. Blue Pride Runs Deep, Friends Forever!!

12/3/16

On Friday the BFS Girls Varsity Basketball Team defeated Friends Seminary 33-22 in the lower gym. The team picked up its second win of the season. BFS led early but after one quarter the score was BFS 6 and FS 4. Not much offense early in this game, going into the half BFS doubled their lead to four points at 13-9. The Panthers were taking good shots all game but they just weren't falling. BFS maintained their lead going into the final quarter of play. BFS led 20-18 before Friends Seminary tied things up and then took a 22-20 lead, their first lead of the game. BFS kept shooting the ball and were able to find the basket and go on a nice 13-0 run to close the game out in front of the home crowd. Senior guard Ivy L. led the way with 9 fourth quarter points including a big time three pointer and going 2-2 at the free throw line. Ivy our captain and leader led the way with a game high 14 points (two 3's). Senior Halima M. finished with 6 points and 5 assists. Freshman Salma M. had 6 points and 9 rebounds, including a big put back basket during the fourth quarter run. Senior Silvely A. hit a huge three pointer, nothing but net, from deep at the top of the key during the amazing 4th quarter run. Freshman Libby S. came out aggressive and chipped in with a basket, as did senior Lexi S. who also had three key steals. Senior Fatima E-B had another key assist. Junior Kasey J. had another solid game, especially on the defensive end. Fellow junior Rosemary D-L-C checked in with 1:50 remaining in the game and was asked to shut down the opponents point guard #12, and that is exactly what she did. She was definitely ready when her time was called. And we cannot forget the "spark plug", Caila F. #5 checked into the game ina very key moment early in the third quarter when we weren't sure which way the game was going to end up going. She came in and and was in the right place at the right time during her moments of action. The rest of the team fed off her energy. Everyone needs to be ready for their moment. Way to go team. Its great having 16 players on this years roster. Looking forward to the next one. See you at practice. Blue Pride!!

The BFS Boys Varsity Basketball Team defeated FASNY 41-18 on the road in Westchester. The team came away with an impressive victory. It is the first win of the young season. It was a well-balanced attack by the Panthers as no one player scored in double figures, but 8 out of 10 players scored in the game. Way to go team. The team defense also played a huge role during the second half as they held their opponent to only 4 points. Three BFS players led the team in scoring with 8 points by seniors Maalik D, Brendan G, and sophomore Kwesi S. After that, senior Charlie S. scored 7 points, sophomore Jailen L. had 5 points, senior Sam F. scored 4 points, and fellow senior Isaac H. chipped in with 2 points and grabbed a team high 10 rebounds. On Thursday the BFS Girls Varsity Soccer Team defeated Dwight 3-1 in the ISAL Championship Game at Randall's Island. The setting for the finals was an extremely grey and rainy day that set a cold and damp mood. Luckily the Lady Panthers were pumped up to be playing in the big game that they are now a custom to. The team played some of its best soccer of the season today! The team had numerous opportunities and dominated play throughout most of the game. Our first goal came off a punt from the Dwight goalie Sylvie B. who got the rebound and touched it forward, to Emma P. who dribbled forward and hit a hard shot that tipped off the goalies hands and bounced off the inside of the crossbar. We put away a second goal in the first half by a spectacular play by freshman Willa S. who won the ball off a goal kick and while bouncing mid air she ripped it into the upper left corner. Our third and final goal came in the second half when sophomore Emma P. sent a bending ball in from a corner kick that barely knocked off a Dwight player and straight into the net! Way to go!! Our goalie Molly R. and the back line (Kasey J., Jonae O., Libby S., and senior leader Sophie E.) played a solid 80 minute game despite the slick weather conditions, helping us clinch the finals win! Our one and only senior Sophie E. played a great last game and will be greatly missed for her leadership on and off the field. Thanks to the Coaches, Players, Parents/Guardians, Robert the bus driver, everyone who made this season a success, and of course the FANS. 2016 ISAL Playoff Champions....Blue Pride Runs Deep, Friends Forever!!

On Wednesday the BFS MS Girls Soccer Team defeated LFNY 2-1 at beautiful Bush Terminal Park. It was an extremely exciting game for everyone involved. Congrats to the players and coaches. Blue Pride!!

The BFS Girls Varsity Soccer Team defeated Church 3-0 at picturesque Brooklyn Bridge Park. What an October day, under unusually hot weather conditions for this late in the season. BFS struggled to find the back of the net for the first 20 minutes of the game despite the fact that Churchill only fielded 9 players. Even with a lack of collective energy we were able to pull away with a 3-0 victory. The first goal came off a defensive goal kick that sophomore Emma P. won out of the air and dribbled through the whole field to score herself, unassisted. The second goal was a beautiful string of four passes that moved the ball up the field which ended with junior and captain Niamh passing to freshman Willa who finished it without hesitation. Lastly, Emma P. repeated her first goal by again winning one of our goal kicks, dribbling through the entire field and hitting a shot that went just over the tops of the Churchill goalie. Blue Pride!!

The BFS Boys Varsity Soccer Team defeated Churchill 2-0 out on Randall's Island.

BFS started with high pressure intensity to open the score 1-0 in the 11th minute, after senior leader Charlie S. gave a through ball to freshman Gabriel D. who had a great finish sending a low shot passed the goalkeeper. Six minutes later, a defensive mistake from our opponents defense left the soccer ball stagnant in the goalie box, Gabriel D. jumped in and took advantage of this mistake to make it 2-0. A strong BFS defense kept Churchill's offense frustrated with no opportunities to score. Off to our last regular season game tomorrow. Way to go team. Blue Pride!!

The BFS MS Boys Soccer Team defeated Churchill 6-1 out on Randall's Island. As they continued to roll on. The team notched their ninth win of the season by defeating their ISAL opponent. The Panthers waisted no time getting the scoring started as Oliver M. (8th) crossed a ball into the box for Mirembe M-T (8th) which he deposited with less than a minute gone by in the first half. Less than ten minutes later Mirembe returned the favor by assisting on the first of two goals by Oliver. With the score 3-0, Nico M. (8th) took a direct kick from just outside the box and drove the ball just under the cross bar for the fourth goal of the half. The only blemish of the game was a goal scored against by Churchill with under one minute to play in the first half. In the second half Alex B. (7th) scored his first goal of the season on one of the most beautiful through ball passes of the season by his teammate Nico. Nico soon after scored his second goal of the game and team leading 12th of the season. Ethan W. (7th) assisted on Nico's goal, his first assist of the season.

The trip on Tuesday was the team's last bus ride of the season. They will finish out this week with practices on Thursday and Friday before fishing out the season with games at Brooklyn Bridge Park next week. Stop by the field and checkout the action. Blue Pride!!

The BFS Girls Varsity Volleyball Team defeated Friends 3-2 (16-25, 25-17, 25-27, 25-17, 15-13) in the upper gym. The BFS Girls Varsity Volleyball Team defeated Birch Wathen Lenox 3-1 (25-14, 17-25, 25-14, 25-12) in the upper gym. The team picked up its 6th win in a row. Blue Pride!!

The BFS Girls Varsity Soccer Team played to a 1-1 tie against LREI at Calvert Vaux.

This match was certainly the most disappointing game of the season despite the 1-1 result. Even though it wasn't a loss the outcome was particularly frustrating considering the team needed the win to potentially claim the 1st place spot in the ISAL league. Although the result was disappointing, the collective spirit and effort from the team was the best we've seen so far this season. LREI got the first goal of the match early in the first half by a controversial free kick right outside the 18 yard box. The original call was dicey but on top of that the referee allowed a re-kick after we blocked the first attempt! Fueled by a sense of injustice the ladies fired up and fought hard until halftime while the score remained 1-0.

BFS' goal came from a hard drive from sophomore Emma P. who dribbled through half the field and took a shot from long distance to tie the score up at 1-1. The Lady Panthers worked hard for the remainder of the game, with countless opportunities that just couldn't seem to fine the back of the net. All in all a tough result but valiant effort!
