Each intensive includes assessment in the form of a documentary submission and presentation covering the specific learning outcomes across the integrated modules (criteria is either taught, assessed or practised). this provides the opportunity for continuous performance monitoring and feedback
The Architect Apprenticeship Roadmap outlines the approach for the first 3 years of the programme (Part 2) and the focus of each intensive.
Year 1 - WHY? Through the use of critical thinking methodologies, apprentices are encouraged to challenge the fundamental basis of design and generate an individual design and research agenda. For Management, Practice and Law (MPL) apprentices will be encouraged to observe and initiate conversations about how practice works operationally.
Year 2 - HOW? In year two learners are guided to develop their design and research agenda building upon the specialist knowledge gained through the research undertaken in year one. In Management, Practice and Law they will develop a critical thinking module and develop ways to graphically represent complex information clearly and concisely.
Year 3 - WHAT? The third year offers the opportunity to consolidate research and technical factors a comprehensive major design project. Learners should also be encouraged to present their findings to their practice colleagues and talk about how they could influence the forward-thinking of the practice
Year 4 comprises of ARB Part 3 Seminars and Examinations in Practice and Management followed by the End Point Assessments. Please see Part 3/ EPA page for further details (in progress)
Learners undertake guided independent study in the workplace for the 26 days in-between intensives, to respond to feedback (provided in Google classroom) and prepare for the pre-requisite submission. If distributed equally this equates to 6.5 days between each intensive. Apprentices have the flexibility to take these days how they wish as long as they are undertaking and recording their 'new learning' each calendar month.
The pre-requisite brief is released in google classroom at the end of the previous Intensive. Clarifications should be sought via the Q+A feedback form, please read all of the answers ahead of the fortnightly drop-in sessions (dates available in google calendar and Monday updates)
Pre-requisite submissions are to be submitted into google classroom by 7pm on the Friday prior to each Intensive period. The submission deadlines can be found on the Key Dates document. Please note all submissions prior to Intensive 4 are formative assessments and do not contribute to your final mark
Between each intensive teaching period there will be the opportunity for apprentices to meet with their allocated supervisor. Sign-up sheets will be released 3-4 weeks before each intensive. Mentors are also welcome to attend these meetings.
Apprentices attend intensives sessions in September, December, March, June and July of each year with the exception of January starts, who in Year 1 only, engage with intensives in January, March, June and July. The more concentrated Year 1 delivery allows January starters to re-join the prior September cohort in March, and share the same course structure and end date. Apprentices are expected to attend all intensives as a basis for accumulating the requisite knowledge.
Supported by the core delivery team, a network of academic and industry experts as well as peer-to-peer learning, these intensives present key concepts that will enable the learner to train, learn through simulated projects in order to reflect on the context of practice.
For details of when each Intensive is due to take place please refer to the Key Dates page
Learners are asked to present their progress on the last Friday of each Intensive teaching period.
Mentors are encouraged to attend the presentations of their own apprentice as well as the wider apprenticeship cohort.
In addition, learners have the opportunity to observe the presentations of all years.
