Progress Review meetings are a requirement of the apprenticeship funding rules and are an important mechanism for all parties to monitor progress of the apprenticeship and ensure off-the-job training is being achieved, as well as to provide an opportunity to discuss the apprentice's wellbeing and answer any questions. The University, as training provider, the apprentice and the employer all made a commitment to participate in these reviews in the Training Plan Statement that was signed at the start of the apprenticeship.
Each Progress Review meeting should be attended by the Apprentice, their workplace mentor (or alternate) and the Skills Coach (Apprenticeships) on behalf of the University. Every 3 months the apprentice will be invited to sign-up for a progress review meeting. Please note, it is the learner's responsibility to liaise with their practice mentor/ supervisor to identify a convenient date/ time.
Prior to the meeting, apprentices must ensure that their OTJ hours records are up-to-date in Aptem and the notes from the previous progress review meeting have been approved.
Progress Review meetings will typically last 30 mins and the agenda will cover:
Progress with on-the-job training
Progress with academic study
Attendance and off-the-job training (including progress against the planned off-the-job hours)
Any support needs identified
Any changes e.g. to job roles or practical arrangements for the apprenticeship
The Skills Coach (Apprenticeships) will document the review meeting in Aptem during, or shortly after the meeting. This written summary will need to be signed by the line manager/ mentor and apprentice after each Progress Review meeting clearly outlining any actions agreed.
Apprentices and workplace mentors are encouraged to review and update the Skills Radar at the Midway point of their apprenticeship (Progress Review 2.2) and again at the end of the practical period in preparation for the Gateway Review meeting. The Skills Radar is available to edit 90 days before the next Progress Review meeting is scheduled to take place.
