SOS UK

Students Organising for Sustainability

SOS-UK is a student-led education charity focusing on sustainability created by students and staff at the National Union of Students (UK) in 2019 in response to the climate emergency and ecological crisis.

You can direct students here for many ideas on how they can get involved in sustainability.

SDG Curriculum Mapping SDG curriculum mapping trains students to map the UN Sustainable Development Goals across the formal curriculum, identifying pockets of good practice across the institution, and areas for improvement. Follow the underlined links for more information on the SOS site.

Brookes are presently exploring this - so another good reason for mapping our modules to the SDGs and UNESCO ompetencies, so we can make our efforts and intentions visible to our students!

For Good

Partnering students and organisations for projects, research and placements

The For Good platform has been created to empower students to innovate and progress all aspects of sustainability through meaningful research, projects and placements.

The 'For Good' offerings give students opportunities to gain experience and knowledge of working in a variety of sectors, gaining important employability skills and developing competencies as responsible citizens. By partnering with organisations for projects, research or placements students are able to turn their education into a force for good, demonstrating the positive impact our education institutions have the potential to offer. Targeted research, projects and placements ensure organisations benefit from capacity building, bright ideas and creative solutions for progressing sustainability challenges.

Students can register on the platform free of charge and browse opportunities, and SOS-UK facilitates introductions for suitable matches.

Institutions

There are several ways universities and colleges can get involved in and make use of our For Good platform:

1. Tell your students about it. It's totally free for all students to use the website.

2. Find out what it offers your students.

3. Tell academics about it. As a member institution, academics can register a project or area of interest, to start setting up a partnership before handing it over to their students.
