If you are asking for extra help or time, you need to make sure you are talking In advance and not the morning of or the night before.
Your teachers are really open to hearing what you have to say. Share with them the reason you are asking for something. You may not realize how much they can actually help you.
Especially with history or English, if you are looking for feedback be specific will help you. You can always ask teachers for opinion on work in other classes if you are building a relationship with them.
Teachers really appreciate it when you show that you are waking up early to get more help on something. A lot of the time they will help you with what you need.
Make sure you go before the due date. Going the day of or the day before a test means you may not get the help you're looking for.
