Genes

We began with learning about cells in our body. Then we looked at the mysterious stem cells. Stem cells are cells that have not chosen what they want to. Usually when an egg cell is fertilised, it contains only one stem cell. A little while later, this stem cell starts to rapidly duplicate. When this process is completed, groups of certain stem cells chose what type of cells the want to be. Some might want to be heart cells some fat cells some nerve and so on.

Next mini topic: Chromosomes

Here is a picture of us learning about chromosomes on our trip.

Next we learnt about chromosomes - the package for DNA. Did you know, these chromosomes are quite similar to socks? Socks all have different colours and designs but ultimately, there will always be another sock making it a pair. However, they can be different - like one sock has a hole in it and the other doesn't. All in all, these are the guys that make you different from your friend. But, how DO they make you different? Find all about that below.

The genetic code

This is what makes you different from your peers - only by 0.5%. Did you know that the follow a certain code ATCG like above. That actually all have a meaning starting off with A. A stands for adenine, T stands for thymine, C stands for cytosine and G for guanine. To create you at the size of a newborn baby over 3,000,000,000 letters. So, so complex.
