20/10/17 Making a Parachute
Now we are going to tell you all about making a parachute!
We used only a few materials to make the parachutes: a plastic bag, string, tissue paper, thread, tape and of course a lego figure!
Everybody tried their best to overcome their challenges of the parachutes!!!
While making the parachute we faced many challenges!!!
We used different materials to make our parachutes float down slowly and elegantly
Here are Maya, Riya, Sara and Zada- Leigh making their parachutes!!
Most of our parachutes were successful, but it took a while to get them working, then they started to work perfectly!
It was hard work making the parachutes float down slowly and in a straight line too at the same time.
To make a parachute, you need to adjust the string or thread to the bag. Make sure that there are no holes in the bag. You can decide whether you want tissue paper or tape to do this but you can also make and extra layer on the outside to make it go slower. Attach the string or thread to the Lego figure with tape or just tie the string around it. Then test the parachute out. If it goes all wobbly or to slow, make a hole at the top of the parachute to make it all steady, and if it goes too fast, then you should find a way to make it lighter or more layers to catch the air in.
We used a plastic bag but a while after, we had a test and built a tissue paper parachute and tested which one was faster. We could not decide which one was faster so we just built tissue paper as well as the plastic bag parachutes.
Fun Facts:
It was really fun making parachutes!!!!
Stem Club has been a success of technology and mathematics. We as members of Stem Club try our best for everything.
We had lots of fun thinking of new ways to make our parachutes, and some of us did many different designs!
A parachute needs a fair amount of air to get the rider down safely otherwise..... The rider ( Lego figure) will collapse on the floor!!!!! We did not get it right on our first attempts, but with a little time we were able to learn from our mistakes and then crafted our parachutes which were successful!!
We tested our parachutes and two pairs were successful! We had a chat about why those certain people won and what type of materials they used.
We tried to reach this week and it finally came to our decision to make a website.
