For my project, I took one 12x16 canvas and wrote my favorite motivational quote, “ Don’t let other people decide who you are.” - Dennis Rodman. And, for the second canvas, I sketched Dennis Rodman diving for a basketball. After finishing the sketches, I whitewashed both of the canvas to fade the graphite. Last, I embroidered the canvas with snapped rubber bands.
The meaning behind the artwork is to be a help in society. I feel that people rely on others' opinions of themselves to define whom they are, rather than deciding who they are themselves. This artwork is meant to be a reminder that you can decide who you are. People can always use a little more motivation and pep in their step.
The main purpose of the artwork is to reuse snapped rubber bands. When we find snapped rubber bands or break rubber bands, we tend to throw them away. And even though rubber bands can decompose, it takes a long time to do so. By taking broken rubber bands and putting them to another use, we are helping the community and environment.
The main benefit of my artwork is to make the world a better place, physically and socially. By using snapped rubber bands, the world benefits physically by not having to wait on the rubber to decompose. And by using the snapped rubber bands to make motivational pieces, the world benefits socially.
