The Musical Quadlet is a creation that goes into the Arts and Leisure Catagory. In a nutshell, The Musical Quadlet is a cube that is painted white, in addition to having black music notes painted onto the white paint. There are 4 instruments hot-glued to the cube, each being a different, hand picked one. Every instrument is a percussion instrument, being a Xylophone, a Drum, a Triangle, and 2 Finger Cymbals. Each instrument has been glued to one side with a rubber band wrapped around the cube. The slack of the rubber band is very low, so pulling it back too far or much will easily snap it (this has happened to me before). So, when released, it hits the instrument, making a noise depending on what instrument you. If you hit the drum, it should make a semi-loud BOOM. The Xylophone should make a semi-quiet ding or dong, based on which bar you hit. The Triangle should make sort of a SLAPing sound, becuase if you've read my descriptions below, you should know the Triangle is my most dissapointing one. And finally, the cymbals when hit make a bing, mostly because of the vibration from the rubber band.
The Triangle
The Triangle is a instrument that is supposed to be hit on the inside with a metal rod. However, when touching something else while being hit, the metallic, instrumental sound dissapears. That is why I find this to be the most dissapointing one, and when it it purely depends on the band's vibration.
The Drum
The Drum is the loudest instrument on here, making a loud, booming noise when hit. I have glued a red ball to the front of it to increase noise efficency and vibration.
The Xylophone
The Xylophone is my personal favorite. As you can see by the photo, there are 8 bars, each getting taller as they go to the right. The taller a bar is, the deeper its pitch is. That means that this side provides some variety to sounds, meaning if you hit a specific bar, it will make a specific pitch.
The Cymbals
The Cymbals are actualy Finger Cymbals, meaning they are smaller cymbals. But I got carried away here, and realized they were way smaller than I imagined. So, I found that if you stack 2 cymbals' edges, then they BOTH vibrate when hit and make a metallic rubbery sound.
Early Digital Sketch
This is a sketch of the Musical Quadlet that was started about 3-4 months ago. I have added a few small details since then, such as the background and musical notes, but the design was planned from the beginning.
Essay
The Musical Quadlet is a “four in one” kind of thing, but with a twist. It is a cube with four instruments that have been hot-glued to the said cube, so that they can’t fall off. The cube is wooden, with specific hand picked instruments. These instruments include: a Xylophone, a Drum, a Triangle, and two Finger Cymbals. Instead of just using the instruments normally, there is a rubber band around the cube, and you have to twang it against the instrument.
I have specifically picked out instruments that you have to hit to make noise, so that the rubber band will make a noise against the instruments. The cube is hollow to increase noise efficiency, as it can vibrate, which some of the instruments depend on.
As I said before, there is a rubber band around the cube, so that you can pull it back (not too hard), and then release. There is a different instrument on each side, so that each time you hit the instrument, it will make a different, unique sound. Although the slack of the rubber bands isn’t great, it manages, so you can pull it back a little bit. This gives it just enough power to make the “twang” it needs. And, if it ever for some reason gets popular and becomes a byeable product, then here is a list of reasons why you SHOULD buy it!
Instead of going to different stores all of the time to get your instruments, you can get a very nice four in one deal! Or if you are a solo musician, you can easily place the cube in your lap and play two, three, or even four instruments at once! It is easy because they are so close together, making it easy to play multiple instruments at once!
