Pear Deck

Pear Deck is an interactive presentation tool that helps to increase engagement and promote student voice. It works with Google Slides to add a layer of interactivity to your presentation; this might be in the form of quick responses to a question, a short assessment exercise, or a sketch. Pear Deck, also, includes a series of professionally designed slides that are easy to add to your own presentation; these range from slides relating to social wellbeing to a vocab quiz to ideas to help develop deeper, critical thinking. At the end of the lesson teachers can share 'takeaways' via Google Classroom. 'Takeaways' are a record of the teacher's presentation slides along with the students responses and are automatically created and customised for every student in the class at the end of the lesson. You access Pear Deck via Google Slides or the Pear Deck website; be sure to sign in with your School Google account.

  1. To access Pear Deck simply open any Google Slides file.
  2. Click 'Add-ons' in the Google Slides menu.
  3. Hover over Pear Deck then click Open Pear Deck Add-on.
  4. You will then see a sidebar menu appear which is fairly easy to navigate (it may ask you to sign in with your Google account from time-to-time).

Pear Deck Resources

Below are a series of links to a number of different Pear Deck support pages - they are pretty self-explanatory. I highly recommend taking a look at 'The Orchard' examples page - I have found the critical thinking templates particularly useful.
