Google

As a G Suite for Education school, we have access to a wide variety of Google applications. For those new to Google apps, many are simple substitutes for Microsoft tools - Docs = Word, Sheets = Excel, Slides = PowerPoint. The Google substitutes tend to be a bit more streamlined, especially the iPad versions, but you should find it does everything you need it to do. In addition to the apps previously mentioned, there is Drive, which is where everything is stored and Classroom, our teacher-student workflow solution. You will find a sub-page dedicated to each application containing challenge sheets and video tutorials. Moving away from Microsoft applications will take a bit of time, it took me nearly 2 years, but you should find the ability to collaborate, share resources, and simplicity of the applications make it worthwhile.

45 Ways to use G Suite for Education in the Classroom

Google makes it's money, predominantly, from data and advertising. However, as a registered G Suite for Education school we have a slightly different relationship than a 'normal' user. Google is compliant with the UK's Data Protection Act, GDPR, DfE requirements, and the EU / US Data Privacy Shield. In effect, all data collected by Google is encrypted and used for product improvement purposes only. Google state that they will not pass on any School data to third parties or use our data for advertising purposes.
