Mindfulness and Yoga

What Is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the practice of being present and aware of thoughts, feelings, and sensations. By practicing Mindfulness it moves our mission forward by fostering the well-being of children in school and at home.

When we consistently practice mindfulness it changes the way our brains work, for the positive. It takes intentional practice when we are not in an alert/escalated state to form new pathways in our brain. Our practice will become habits.

Help Students Learn to Calm, Focus, and Connect

Our Brains

At times of real or perceived stress our students can "flip their lids." Our students learn about their Amygdala (security dog), Hippocampus (memory maker) and their Prefrontal Cortex (wise owl) and how strategies to help them build more skills in controlling their brains.

Neuroplasticity is what allows us to make a new pathway in our brain. By intentionally practicing mindfulness or yoga daily it will form a new pathway so that we don't "flip our lids."

What happens to our brains under stress and why practicing yoga or mindfulness is a solution. Practicing mindfulness strategies frequently allows for our children to be in control more and lower their level of response to real or perceived stress.

Mind Yeti is through Committee for Children. It is full of great videos that are free for families to use at home.
