Target group: Years 2-6
The approach taken by Jordan and Tara illustrates the importance of ensuring that everyone (learners and whānau) are informed and enabled to participate in the hybrid environment.
The most striking thing about this project is the importance of addressing the basic skills and approaches with everyone involved, and not simply assuming they’ll understand why or how they are to participate. The workshop session with parents illustrates the benefits of having the learners directly involved as ‘teachers’ - with the benefits for both the parents and the learners as noted in the commentary by Jordan.
While two different platforms were used (Yr 2 using SeeSaw, Yr 6 using Google Classroom & apps) the pedagogical strategies were similar, illustrating the benefit of having strong pedagogical drivers, and selecting the technology that best suits the age group and context.
The reflections shared about how these teachers are using and intend to use into the future the online learning hub provides some useful guidance for other teachers who may be considering a similar approach.
Our ākonga and whānau have become disengaged from the mahi done in class due to the stop/start nature of learning over the last two years.
By running workshops include the teacher, student and family so that all will have the opportunity to learn, lead and be heard. Ākonga will become empowered to explain the work done in class, by guiding them how to communicate their learning at home.

Progress Report #1
We ran an on-site workshop for whānau and the ākonga to come and find out about their tamariki learning and the use of devices.
To begin we gathered information from a survey sent out about the dates and times that they were available. We went for the most common date, and made the session an open-door, three hour session where whānau could arrive when it suited them.
The ākonga could attend the sessions, and become the leaders of the conversation to become confident.
We shared a site with the instructions that were created and edited on the day (beginners and expert options).
