What is a Career Development Event?
Career Development Events build on what is learned in agricultural classes and encourage members to put their knowledge into practice. These events are designed to help a member prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging the student's technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as their knowledge of the subject matter. CDEs answer the question, "When will I use this knowledge in the real world?"
CDEs at Brazoswood FFA:
Livestock Judging – Evaluates cattle, sheep, swine, and goats based on market and breeding standards.
Poultry Evaluation – Assesses live birds, carcasses, and eggs based on industry standards.
Veterinary Science – Tests students on animal health, safety, and clinical procedures.
Floriculture – Tests knowledge of floral design, plant identification, and business practices.
Agricultural Technology & Mechanical Systems – Involves welding, electrical, and mechanical problem-solving.
Tractor Tech - Diagnose, repair, and maintain agricultural machinery.
Entomology - Identify insects, classify them by common name and order, understand their life cycles, and apply entomological knowledge in real-world agricultural and environmental contexts.
