Habitat for Humanity Korea conducted a survey with the communities they support. Based on the survey, one of the common issues was the lack of space. Homes are relatively small, and are shared with several people. As such, maximizing the space is important and using it efficiently and comfortably is very important.
Outcome
Habitat for Humanity seeks furniture and houseware solutions that will improve the quality of life of the communities and families they support. People should feel empowered and satisfied with the solution. The proposed solutions should have the potential for affordable production using CAD/CAM technologies.
Broad Requirements
Modular and/or adjustable: Every house has a different layout , thus available space varies. Designs should be adjustable or modular so that they can suit different surroundings/layouts.
User-assembly: Designs should be easy to assemble, disassemble and reassemble, using simple tools.
Regular Use: Design should focus on meeting the needs of daily or regular use. If the product cannot be used frequently, it will only add to the lack of living space.
Optimization of space: Designs should focus on optimizing space in a way that improves usability and quality of life.
