Things to know:
This is a college credit class. Expectations are a lot higher than in honors, but are not unreasonable.
This is a psych class, you are expected to collaborate respectfully with others regularly --in and out of class.
I expect that you will reading your text or work for 20ish minutes every day depending on how fast you read/work. That is it. Skip a day, then 40 mins the next, etc. This is a college level course expectation and based on the science of learning and encoding. You promised me and yourself 15-20 mins of work every night. Please don't lie to yourself. Cramming is for very weak students who failed to plan.
If you need an extension, just ask and you will get it. If you don't ask, you won't get it. This is inspired by the UMass policy for extensions. Abuse of this privilege will result in it being suspended for you.
Late work with permission will be accepted with no points. If however, your project or notebook are turned in after the test, corrections are unavailable to you.
Please keep all of your work in a 3 ring binder, use notebook paper for your reading notes at home, it is much easier to organize than a spiral, so you are expected to have a 3 ring binder. I will provide if you need. Please don't try to use a spiral.
Devices can only be open or used for notes in class if there is a medical reason or accommodation. Please handwrite your text notes while doing homework and then fill in with more examples during class discussions.
Extra credit is accepted (up to 2pts) every week on Fridays unless there are other opportunities. You will write out your vocab term and apply it in some way to your life. You must demonstrate understanding in order to earn a point per leaf. 2 leaves max per Friday that I'm there to take leaves.
Respect your classmates. Lots of complex discussions happen in this class, don't be spilling others' tea. Side conversations are distracting and insulting to other contributing participants.
We are aiming for full participation during full class conversations. It is generous to share and help your friends by giving examples in discussion, those who don't contribute will not be rewarded with participation points.
Having your phone out on your desk or otherwise visible to you, even in your pocket, means that a significant chunk of your processing ability has been turned off --intentionally-- by you. Please keep phones in your bag all times.
Please don't put your food on the floor, or where the dog can easily snag it. I'll apologize; but it will be your fault. He or she is a dog, even if in training to be a service dog.
If you put your head down on your desk, I will assume that you are ill and will ask you to go to the nurse. Apologies, previous students who have vomited in class have classically conditioned me. If you are exhausted, please just go home, you need more sleep.
AI expectations require that you do all work in google docs, handwritten in notability, or handwritten on paper. I must be able to turn in your typed work for plagiarism/AI screening into google classroom, so please don't try to turn in anything other than a google doc or handwritten pdf or jpg.
