Extra credit leaves: only accepted Fridays during the school day. Pick a vocab term from RM, any previous terms that you missed on an assessment, or our current unit and apply it to your life in a way that demonstrates understanding. 1 point per leaf, 2 leaves max per Friday. If I am out, or no school, no leaves.
What you need to score on the AP test to get credit at your college or university. Check to see what you need from your possible schools. Know that students choosing to take the AP test will continue to attend class until the AP test the first week of May.
Test correction instructions Yes, you can do corrections on all tests, but in order to earn that privilege, you have to have turned in your project and/or notebook before the test for your class begins. Please follow the instructions in the linked doc.
The Psych 101 book used by UMASS is here (don't request access, it is stored on a non-BPS account, just close school email to access any links I provide that are blocked by school email). The Meyer's book, 3rd edition, is here. Research shows that learners retain more information when they read a hard copy book, but sometimes you are out and have wifi but not your text.

If you are unsure of how to take notes, notecards, plan a study schedule, etc a great youtube channel Frank. Please get help from me or the tutors, you want to really master this skill before going to college. Trust me, I had to learn fast in college how to get organized and take coherent notes, it was painful.
Please look carefully at what units we are studying as the textbooks are numbered differently. Please write down questions you have as you go, questions in class are awesome and required for your participation grade.
You are expected to actively participate out loud in class every period, complete one project per unit and one interactive notebook. You will need a 3 ring binder of 1.5" or larger for this full year course. I have a bunch if you want one or if you want a special one, treat yourself. You may not use a spiral for this class, it will not work. You are thinking "it worked for me in middle school," yeah, so....this is a college level class and will require more organization. All work needs to stay organized by unit for your midterm and AP tests. Spirals correlate highly with Ds. It is fine to get a D, but hopefully you are aiming higher.
Your responsibilities are
1. reading each chapter in your textbook and taking notes by hand, mostly jotting down questions you have, writing out vocab, definitions IN YOUR OWN WORDS, and applying a definition. All projects are vocab based, that is the point. You gotta learn the vocab.
2. coming to class ready and eager to participate with questions ready. Please get your sleep! Every time you miss a class, you will check this website to see what specifically you missed. Please email me with any specific questions you have about what exactly you missed.
3. collaborating with others respectfully and to the best of your abilities. Sometimes you will be the scholar on a topic, sometimes you will have no idea what is being discussed; always be kind, curious, and eager to learn something new.
All notes will be handwritten. See WSJ, NPR. If you don't have an ed plan that allows you to type all things, all notes will be handwritten, there will only be an occasional need to show off your laptop in class. You will need loose leaf notebook paper, writing utensil, and your binder every class. A device will be used for all quizzes. I don't care what kind of device; if it is on school wifi, I can see if you switch out of the domain.
Looking forward to a great year with you all!
Please be in touch with any questions! Dr. G
