Gender Studies Resources

This selection will focus mostly on notable modern women.

Books!

We have lots of physical books you can poke through. Remember that you may not need to read the whole book--maybe it's just a chapter or two that you need. Maybe a single page? But books do have excellent, in-depth information. Remember to use the table of contents and the index to explore the book.

Here is a link to the on-line catalog: https://tinyurl.com/bowhighcatalog

And here's a link to some titles that I thought might be helpful for this project. Some of them might be more of a research starter--some enclypedic books that have a little bit of information about a bunch of different people. But those titles can be a great place to start poking around to see what is out there.

Here's a more generic list of books about Women's Studies. But you might find something of interest in here too!

Not that this list will be as helpful, but here's some fiction feature strong female protagonists.

Databases!

Here is a link to Gale's In-Context Biographies. There's a lot of different people in there. You'll find basic research starters as well as more in-depth content in the form of magazines, newspaper articles, and even some academic journals (those are the serious research content articles!).

You can broaden your searching in the Power Search. It will ask you which of the database you want to search in, so why not select them all?

You can also explore EBSCO Discovery. This one has a ton of content including ebooks. Remember that the ebooks can be searched, allowing for quick and easy access to the content you need.

These resources will be very helpful to you. Magazine articles can provide some nice, in-depth coverage. For example the June 2022 Sports Illustrated is focused on women is sports and50 years of Title IX.
