Digital Portfolios

Hello, and welcome to the BHS Digital Literacy Portfolio help page.

The state of NH requires that all students graduating from high school must show they are proficient with technology by creating a portfolio with evidence and artifacts that show their skills with technology.  Students will be assessed through their Senior Seminar class.  It is highly suggested that students keep up with this requirement throughout their four years of school to make the completion of the portfolio easier.

Students need to show competency in seven areas of the Digital Literacy requirement according to the State of NH.  These seven areas are based on the International Society for Technology in Education's (ISTE) seven standards (2017).  Click here to visit their webpage.  You can click on the document to the right to see the seven standards, explanations of them, and some examples.

There are a couple of ways to create your digital portfolio.

SLE Digital Portfolio 2020

The Google Slides Template Way....

A template is an easy way to put this together.  Make a copy, add some text, slap in some hyperlinks.  There's a video to the left to help guide you.  There are also instructions at the start of the template.  You can find the template right below or click here.

The Google Drive Way...

An easy method to completing this portfolio would be by creating a series of folders in Google Drive where most of the work already exists.

Make a new folder in Drive by clicking the New button in the upper left, then selecting "New Folder."  Make sure you give it a good name so you can easily find it--like Digital Portfolio.  That makes sense.

Open up that folder you called "Digital Portfolio." Now add seven folders within that folder.  Look to the image to the left for the names of each.  You don't need them in any particular order.

Once you have all seven folders, add two files to each.  These are called "Portfolio Artifacts" and are meant to show that you can do that topic.  It's like saying, "Yeah, I can be an innovative designer.  Check out this cool thing I made in IST 9. See? I can do it."

It is recommended that you make copies of the files and the move the copies in your digital portfolio.  That way you have the original in your organized Google Drive.

WATCH OUT FOR FILE SHORTCUTS!  When you make a copy of your file artifact, make sure you create and move a file.  You can create a shortcut, but that shortcut isn't the real file.  if you make sure cuts, make sure you set up the original file to be visible to anyone who needs to see your portfolio.   It's best to make sure you make an actual copy-copy of your file, then move it to the right folder.

Still stuck?  Watch the guide to the left.  Watching helps sometimes.

The Build  A Website Way:

You may have started one of these portfolios at some point.  Here is a link to an example that Mr. Dixon built.  Well, he started it at least; it'll give you an idea to get yourself going.  While this may take more time, the concept is to create a more fully curated impression of who you are.  You can tailor this website to whatever you want.  It's like creating a digital resume of what you would like people to know about you.  Those future employers, the college admissions people, future parents of significant others--who knows who might want to view this?  How can you show yourself off with this portfolio?

Include a page or pages for your digital literacy portfolio.  But what else could you put in here?  You musical and artistic endeavors?  Your community service work? Your leadership skills?  Your extracurricular work?

While this may take you more time, you could use a portfolio like this to really set yourself apart and build your digital appearance.
