Money Matters

This course or Personal Finance and Investing I is a required course for all students. 

Personal Finance and Investing I is recommended for students who plan to pursue a degree in business. 


This course will focus on educating students to become responsible financial citizens. Competencies covered will include: Banking, Budgeting, Credit, Saving & Investing and Taxes. Each student will complete a Capstone project. This course fulfills the finance graduation requirement.

This course will focus on educating students to become financially responsible. Students will learn about pros and cons of credit, budgeting strategies, savings and checking accounts as well as investment options, and how to file an income tax form.. Successful completion of this course, along with Finance II, will qualify for 3 college credits through Southern New Hampshire University. This course will satisfy the finance graduation requirement.

Elective Course Descriptions

Business

Dual Enrollment Option Available for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors 


This course introduces basic business functions such as ownership and management. Students will examine trends and directions in business, be introduced to the concepts of corporate social responsibility and ethical business decision-making, and gain an international perspective of business. A broad background in business practices, principles and economic concepts is discussed.

Marketing

Dual Enrollment Option Available for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors 


This semester course examines the basic functions involved in the exchange process designed to meet customers’ needs. Such functions include marketing research, target market selection, product design, promotional and advertising activities, distribution, theories of consumer behavior and pricing.

Personal Finance and Investing II

Prerequisite(s): Personal Finance and Investing I 


Dual Enrollment Option Available for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors 


This course will build upon the concepts covered in Personal Finance and Investing I. More emphasis will be given to investing strategies, retirement planning, home ownership, credit and insurance. Successful completion of this course, along with Finance I, will qualify for 3 college credits through Southern New Hampshire University.

ELO Internship/Apprenticeship

The internship/apprenticeship course is a semester long elective.  The students will meet with the Instructor to identify career  areas  that they are interested in exploring. Students will complete two different internships, each one being four weeks long. Career professionals as well as admissions counselors will guest speak to the  students  on the  variety of career areas the class is interested in. Other topics in the class include - Career Planning, Online Presence, Job Application Process, Landing a Job and Workplace Success. 

Economics

This course will introduce students to some key concepts in economics. Topics will include: supply and demand, unemployment, inflation. In addition, students will learn how to assess a nation's economy and understand how economics will impact their lives after high school.  

Stock Market and Investing

Prerequisite: Money Matters or Personal Finance & Investing I 


Students in this class will explore the world of investing through an online investment simulation. Students will focus their investments in mutual funds, stocks and bonds.

College Level Accounting

Prerequisite(s): Integrated Algebra I 


Dual Enrollment Option Available for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors 


Accounting stresses skills and techniques of keeping neat and accurate financial records for management decisions and orients students to advanced study in business administration. Accounting teaches students to understand the language of business; to analyze business transactions; to maintain journals and ledgers; to take a trial balance; to make adjusting, closing, and reversing entries; and to prepare financial reports of the business at the end of a fiscal period. During this process the student will also develop an understanding of the composition of basic asset, liability, equity, and income determining accounts, in accordance with current accounting concepts and principles. Students will be introduced to the fundamental mechanics of accounting for proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations. 

AP Macroeconomics

Dual Enrollment Option Available for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors 


The purpose of an AP course in macroeconomics is to give students a thorough understanding of the principles of economics that apply to an economic system as a whole. Such a course places particular emphasis on the study of national income and price-level determination, and also develops students’ familiarity with economic performance measures, the financial sector, stabilization policies, economic growth, and international economics. 

Applied Computer Science

Concurrent Enrollment Option Available for Juniors and Seniors 


This course is designed as an introductory course. Students will develop problem solving skills and use them to design and implement computer programs.

AP Computer Science Principles

Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of Applied Computer Science 


AP Computer Science Principles introduces the student to the central ideas of computer science, instilling ideas and practices of computational thinking and inviting students to understand how computing changes the world. The rigorous course promotes deep learning of computational content, develops computational thinking skills and engages students in the creative aspects of this field. This course is unique in its focus on fostering students to be creative. Students are encouraged to apply creative processes when developing computational artifacts and to think creatively while using simulations to explore questions that interest them. Rather than teaching a particular programming language or tool, the course focuses on using technology and programming as a means to solve computational problems. Students design and implement innovative solutions using an interactive process similar to what artists, writers, computer scientists and engineers use to bring ideas to life.
