Candidate cohorts are groups of five or more educators supported by a trained NBCT working to complete the National Board Certification components for intitial certification or Maintenance of Certification (MOC) components. The work is "self-directed" because each candidate may be working on one or more of the four components for intitial certification or two for MOC. Cohort attendance is not mandatory, but highly recommended. Cohorts are available for new, advanced/continuing or MOC candidates!

Cohort Leaders are a group of paid National Board Certified teachers that come together to support BPS teachers, in a cohort model, through the entire NBCT certification process. A Cohort Leader supports a group of candidates by answering questions, interfacing with our National Board Leadership Team, and facilitating support for candidate-to-candidate learning. The role includes meeting with candidates on a regular basis to:
understand portfolio Instructions and navigate the key documents and processes described by the National Board for Professional Teaching;
establish accountability partnerships with peer candidates; and
connect candidates to resources, both within and outside of the district.
