College application checklist

Follow these steps to make sure that your college applications are complete!

  1. Make sure that your college list in Naviance is correct; add any colleges that are not on Common App.
  2. Check your deadlines! After you’ve completed the college-specific questions on Common App, you will be able to see your application deadlines on the dashboard. Many colleges have regular decision deadlines on January 1st. Financial aid deadlines are usually slightly later. For colleges not on Common App, you can check their admissions websites for dates and deadlines. Here is an example: https://www.fitchburgstate.edu/admissions/undergraduate/requirements/freshmen/
  3. Submit your application through Common App (or the college’s portal if not on Common App).
  4. Make sure that you test scores have been sent through College Board or ACT. Here is a video explaining how to send your SAT scores to colleges: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=102&v=OgMUw5XUJl0&feature=emb_title
  5. Email your college adviser ASAP to let them know that you’re done applying. They will send your transcript, counselor recommendation, and fee waivers as necessary.
  6. Submit FAFSA and CSS Profile (if needed). Please see the financial aid tab for more information.
  7. Read the confirmation emails from all your colleges and follow their instructions to create an account on their portal. Make sure to keep track of the usernames and passwords that you create. Please note: it takes time for documents to be matched with your file, so be patient. Check these portals every week or so. If a college is still missing some of your documents 3-4 weeks after applying, notify your adviser.

*Also, let your college adviser know when you receive acceptance letters! We are always very excited to hear the news.
