High school girls basketball: Haughton raises record to 9-0 with tournament victory; Plain Dealing wins

1. JROTC attended Caney Lakes Orienteering Meet this past Saturday at which time Callie Roe, the orienteering commander, placed 2nd, Xavier Wilson, the deputy orienteering commander placed 2nd, and Jerry Moore placed 3rd. All orienteers received neck medals. Congratulations Bucs in Blue.

2. Congrats to the JROTC Academic Team.  They competed in the first round of the National  JROTC Academic and Leadership Bowl competition where both the Varsity and JV teams have reached the second round.  A first for the Bucs in Blue.  Way to go!

1. Saturday, the HHS Marksmanship team traveled to Joshua Texas to compete against Navy and Marine JROTC teams where our Bucs in Blue all had personal bests, tied the highest team score in team history and earned 2nd place overall.  Individually, Layla Briggs, Erin Rigsby, Emily Wood and Wally Cassel all made it to the finals with Layla finishing in 3rd place.  Way to go Bucs in Blue!

Haughton’s Hunter “Puddin’” Cubley runs the ball and scores a commemorative touchdown before official play began between Haughton and St. Louis Catholic on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, at Haughton High School in Haughton, La. Cubley helps out with athletic teams at the school. Jason Brotherton, an assistant principal and former head coach of the football team, said, “He makes everybody’s day better.”

1. All green category cards are due tomorrow, Friday, November 15th. Please turn those in ASAP. If your parent/guardian is military you are required to turn one in. If you need another card, you can get one in the office on your lunch shift, or before or after school.

JROTC attended the Lake Claiborne Orienteering Meet this past Saturday at which time the following orienteers placed in accordance with their course, age and gender categories: Blake Cawthorn, Darren Dahl, Giselle Cano, Trinity Sullivan, and Coleman Cawthorn placed first on the white course. Callie Roe placed first on the orange course. Congratulations Bucs in Blue.

1. Students who registered for the PSAT National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test should check their email for a message from Mrs. Stallcup. In this message you will find important information about the Tues. Oct. 15th exam and the steps you should take before test day.  This test will be held on the Tuesday we return from Fall Break.

1. HHS students and staff donated 65 units of blood and 10 units of plasma. Your efforts have the potential of saving a total of 195 adults or 1,885 babies. Just 1 pint can save 29 babies. That’s incredible!  Great job HHS!

1. Wednesday is our HHS Fall Blood Drive.   If you are 16 years old, then you must have a signed consent form.  Homeroom teachers have copies to handout.  Please return them before the blood drive.  All blood donations will benefit the 28 hospitals and treatment centers in Northwest Louisiana

2. The next ACT administration is scheduled for Saturday, October 26th at HHS.  The deadline to register for this test is THIS Friday, Sept. 20th. Students must register for this exam online at ACT.org and the cost is $69.  ACT Fee Waivers are available to those 11th and 12th grade students who meet the economic need eligibility.  These can be requested by emailing Mrs. Stallcup.  The waiver covers the cost of the exam and a subscription to an online study course.

The lady Bucs volleyball team will host Calvary tonight. Students get in for $5.00 with a student ID. 

Freshmen start at 4:00, JV at 5:00, and varsity at 6:00.

1. Saturday the swim team competed at the ASH Invitational Meet placing 3rd overall! The boys relay team (Beck Hammond, Noah Lackie, Tyler Warren, Logan Pickren) took 1st place. Logan Pickren came in 1st place in the 100 yard free. Way to go bucs! Catch our next meet at Tech on 9/21!
