Kaila Ho has been playing the saxophone for just short of a decade and is continuing her studies of music at Boise State University, as she seeks to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. Even though it is her first year at the university, she has been studying with Selmer Performing Artist and Professor of Saxophones at Boise State, Rodney Zuroeveste, for over five years. During her time learning with Rodney Zuroeveste, she has also had the opportunity to receive instruction, in the private lesson and master class settings, from amazing saxophonists such as Scott Turpin, Jane Williams, Todd Gaffke, Idit Shner, Vanessa Sielert, Nathan Boal, and Lynn Klock.
Since picking up the saxophone, Kaila has had the privilege of playing in many county, state, and region-wide honor bands, such as the 2014 and 2016 Idaho All-State and 2015 All-Northwest bands. In these groups, she has been conducted by Marcellus Brown, Andrew Boysen Jr., Linda Moorhouse, Paula Crider and Michael Golemo. During her time with the 2016 All-State band, Kaila had the opportunity to premier Dan Bukvich’s composition, Symphonic Movement as a soloist. Within her high school career, Kaila also went to State Solo Competition for three consecutive years and won the alto saxophone division two times out of the three.
In addition to her love for performing with large ensembles and as a soloist, Kaila enjoys playing in chamber ensembles. For five years, Kaila has been practicing, performing, and competing with a saxophone quartet, coached by Rodney Zuroeveste. Currently Kaila is an active member of Boise State’s top band, Symphonic Winds and plays in the Bill Rankin Saxophone Quartet. She also has performed within her community over several years and has brought her love of music to many.
In the future, Kaila hopes to become an elementary music educator and bring music to the lives of young aspiring musicians. She hopes to inspire and instill an appreciation, as well as a lifelong love of music, to everyone she comes in contact with.
