Emily Foster was raised in the small town of Filer, Idaho where there are still no stoplights. She first picked up a saxophone the summer before 5th grade and hasn’t stopped playing since. She started playing on a tenor saxophone that her father used when he was learning how to play the saxophone. Emily participated in solo and ensemble while in middle school. In high school she got into the audition only jazz band her freshman year as first chair tenor. She traveled with the jazz band to jazz festivals and city public performances in and around the Magic Valley. Emily was also in the audition only madrigal choir at her high school which performed around the valley as well. She attended 3 Magic Valley Honor Band Clinics and 1 Honor Choir Clinic. Emily attended music summer camps during high school and met Mr. Brown from Boise State who instructed bands at the camp. Mr. Brown was a big influence for her when deciding where she wanted to attend college. During her senior year of high school she was invited to play with the College of Southern Idaho’s Concert Band on tenor saxophone. She auditioned for Boise State University in the spring of 2015 and got in as a pre-music major, she auditioned 2 more times before becoming a music education major at Boise State. Her main instrument of study with Mr. Zuroeveste is the tenor saxophone. She has played first tenor and first alto in the all campus concert band run by Dr. Tornello, baritone in symphonic winds run by Marcellus Brown, tenor and baritone in saxophone choir and quartet run by Mr. Zuroeveste.
