In general, MSE graduate students can easily transfer up to 12 credits of coursework from either a previous masters degree or a previous graduate program enrollment. These courses will generally be transfered in as general elective credit in MSE (MSE 500XF) and will be applied to the "Technical Emphasis Area" and "Other Graduate Courses" requirements.
All transfered courses are subject to the policies of the university and graduate college including the following
Must have earned a B or better
Must be for "standard" courses - seminars, experiential learning, and research courses cannot be transferred
**In special cases, transfering credit for MSE 605 Crystallography, MSE 608 Thermodynamics, and MSE 618 Kinetics/Phase Transformation may be considered. In this case, a detailed syllabus must be provided and student must be able to demonstrate understanding of at least 80% of the course content of the Boise State MSE version of the course. Limits on total number of credits transfered and applied to the program still apply**

After starting courses and prior to admission to candidacy, a student will initiate the "Request for Approval of Transfer Credits" following the instructions in the above link. This should be started AFTER a discussion with the student's advisor and the Graduate Program Coordinator.
Unless special approval has been received, all credits should be entered as "MSE 500XF General Elective" and a full syllabus or other course documentation must be attached for the courses to be transfered.
To have the courses applied to the degree, once you submit your admission to candidacy, these courses as "MSE 500XF" should be entered on your admission to candidacy. COURSES WILL NOT SHOW AS APPLIED to the degree on the academic requirement report until the Admission to Candidacy has been approved.
The below text is taken from the graduate catalog highlighting specific policies relevant to transferring gradaute courses. For the most up to date policies and addition information, see the online graduate catalog: https://www.boisestate.edu/graduatecatalog/#/policies
At least one-half (1/2) of the total credits required for a graduate degree or certificate must be earned at Boise State University and must be approved for application by the Graduate College and the program coordinator. Students who have completed a master’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or non-U.S. institution, if approved by the Graduate Program Coordinator, Graduate College, and the registrar, may be applied to meet the credit requirement of a PhD
