The Academic Programs Manager, in collaboration with the Associate Director of Graduate Programs, supports the overall graduate program and all students and faculty through advising, tracking requirements, proposal and defense support, along with many other activities. The academic programs manager should be your first contact for general questions.

The MSMSE Front Office has a support team that provides the following support to all school members, including graduate students
● Hiring paperwork
● Travel documentation
● Purchasing (lab materials, chemicals, gases, etc.)
● General office support
● Work/study space assignment

Your Major Advisor is your primary mentor and will be actively engaged in your academic, research, and professional success. They provide guidance on your thesis/dissertation topic, guide your research efforts, provide direction on your academic plan and funding support, typically through grants or fellowships. Frequent interaction between you and your Major Advisor is needed to establish the scope of, review progress in, and provide direction for your academic and research plan. It is your responsibility to schedule regular meetings and communicate often with your Major Advisor.
Your Supervisory Committee is charged with general guidance and mentorship, including design and approval of the program of study, supervision of the dissertation (Ph.D.) or thesis (M.S.) research, and participation at your defense. The Supervisory Committee is composed of graduate faculty members who are appointed to the committee by the Graduate College and are able to contribute to your research. The formation of your supervisory committee is described under program requirements.
