The Boise School District's vision is to be an inspiring and responsible model of environmental, educational, social, and economic sustainability in our community. The Boise School District Sustainability Committee’s mission is to engage students, families, teachers, and school staff in sustainability initiatives while bringing together the experience, perspectives, and resources of community partners. The committee will assess and implement best practices to achieve efficient and sustainable environments within a culture of respect, responsibility, equity, and education. The Boise School District Board of Trustees recognize the deliberate progress made by the district staff and students to reduce the district’s energy consumption and lessen its carbon footprint through recycling programs, energy-smart programs, and environmentally-responsible and energy/resource-efficient practices.
In the spring of 2024, I was invited to the Green Schools Conference in Santa Fe, NM along with four other district Green Team Leaders. We were immersed in a positive and inspiring week of collaborative events, presentations, tours and speakers who consistently shared their stories of commitment to a sustainable future where clean air, water, and food security is possible for all our communities. Our district impressed everyone we crossed paths with in that we have a Sustainability Lead in every school. Special thanks to Alison Ward, who supervises us all and gives data and direction to Boise Schools, our students and their families to lead the way to a sustainable future that begins with individual action every day. The progress we have made together is an effort that is student-led and school wide throughout the Boise School District. I am so proud to be Green Team Leader and part of this important program! Together, we will inspire others to help us keep Idaho and our world green and clean. When we work together, everything is possible!
