European colonists in North America faced several challenges in establishing permanent settlements. From conflicts with Native Americans to developing a sustainable economy to creating governance structures, the original thirteen British colonies developed varying solutions, which at times led to vast regional differences.
Students will be able to independently use their learning to develop a monument to an individual, group, event, or topic from the Colonial Era and explain why they deserve a monument today in a public place. This will help a specific community have a more inclusive and comprehensive view of the nation’s past.
