Sorry, what's your name again . . ?

For this first assignment, you are going to conduct historical research into the history of you. Particularly the origin, history, and proper pronunciation of your name.  This project will require you to build one page on GOOGLE Sites, a platform you may or may not have used in the past, in order to briefly introduce yourself and to explain how you came to have your name.  

• Before you begin, you are to read the linked excerpt from The House on Mango Street.

  • Using this excerpt as a starting point, you will need to consider the significance of your name.  Your project will be to inform us (your classmates and me) about your name.

    • Before you begin writing, you must conduct some research.   Ask your parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles about their recollections of how your name was chosen.  How were their stories similar?  How did they differ? The following questions might help in your research.  

      • Why were you named Agnes rather than Anna?   

      • How did you come to be known as Earl when Julius is the name on the class roster? 

      • Whatever your name, first, middle, or last, your assignment is to conduct a little family research to discover how you came to have the name you do . . .

        • What does your name mean..?  

        • Does it have a special meaning in a foreign language..? 

        • How did you get your name..? 

        • Do you have a nickname..? How did you earn that nickname? 

        • If you changed your name, what would it be..?  Why..? 

        • Would a name change make you feel differently about yourself..?  Why..? 

  • Whether you were named after your Uncle, a character from a movie, the police officer who assisted in your delivery, or your mother just liked how your names sounded together, your name has a story.  This assignment is an opportunity to tell it. 

    • Your page MUST include an origin/description/history of your first and last names.  

      • You are encouraged to share your middle name, confirmation name, other family names, or nicknames you've earned over the years.

    • Your page MUST include an audio file enunciating the proper pronunciation of your full name.

      • You're encouraged to be as creative as you like in the layout and design of your page.
