Lesson 7 week 7: L/O: To be able to evaluate your performance
Go through what they did last week.
Go through the success criteria. What were they trying to do? What was the success criteria?
Go through the success criteria:
Listen back their composition and complete peer assessment.
How close were they to the success criteria in their performance?
Fill out the evaluation sheets (adapt sheets as necessary).
12/07/21 - L/O: TO be able to perform your piece of music
To practise your piece. Think about the musical elements:
Rhythm

Dynamics
Half way through, play to a peer. What went well? What could be improved?
Work on the improvement.
Play to the class.

To complete their diary and identify what they need to work on using the musical elements.
Practise on what they have identified.
Show a partner what they have been doing and receive feedback on what they need to work on.
To improve what their partner suggests.
Film their peformance piece.
Complete their diary.

L/O: To be able to work on a solo performance piece.
The students need to pick a piece that they will work on for the rest of the term. They need to complete a diary, documenting their progress.
At the end of their lesson they need to film their performance piece.
Thanks,

Term 6: DAW
To be able to set up and record your own audio independently.
Main activity: To be able to plan their recording and write a timeline to achieve the desired outcome. To be able to set up their recording stations and the instruments they need to record and set up the tracks they require.
They need to design a timetable for recording over the term. When are they recording, what do they want to record, what do they need to do and when.
If they finish this they need to start on their plan.
Term 5: Digital Audio Workstation - 24/05/21
L/o: To be able to edit a short sequence of audio.
Starter: To recap the work they did last week.
· How did they set up the digital audio workstation?
· What programme did they need to open? How did they set this up?
· What did they need to check to make sure that everything is working?
· How did they edit?
· How did they add automation?
Task 1: To set up the digital audio work station.
Task 2: The students will be an audio file to edit.
They will need to check the best recording and edit the track so that it works all together. They can add automation and put the tracks together so that it sounds together and all one track.
· Higher ability: To be able to look at multiple instrument tracks and edit the sound.
· Lower ability: To be able to edit one instrument recording.
Plenary: what difficulties did they find? How did they overcome these?
Term 5: Digital Audio Workstation - 17/05/21
L/o: To be able to edit a short sequence of audio.
Starter: To recap the work they did last week.

Plenary: what difficulties did they find? How did they overcome these?
Term 5: Digital Audio Workstation - 26/04/21
L/O: To be able to understand how to edit a short sequence of audio.
Starter: To recap how to set up the digital audio workstation and the equipment required to record.
Now set up the equipment to be ready to record. Remember to open a new garageband file and set this up ready to record.
Now record a short recording. Are you happy with it? is it clear and crisp? What is the quality like? Really scrutinise this - the better the recording (the raw recording as it is known) the better edit you will be able to achieve.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xT2CoCdpLw - Have a watch of the video.
Now edit your recording (or an imported track), Cut your recording at the beginning and the end, add a fade in and a fade out. Extension: Have a go at the panning featured (click on volume on the automation and change to panning) Have a got at this, what does it do? Why would this be used?
Plenary: What have you learnt from this process? How will it be useful when you record in the future?
Have a good week,
Mr Ince
Term 5: Digital Audio Workstation
L/o: To be able to set up a recording situation with greater independence.
· Have a look at the video setting up the digital audio work station (DAW).
· Have a go at setting up the audio interface together.
· Log into the Mac Computer and watch the 2nd video. Now have a go at setting up the system to be able to record by following the instructions on the video.
· Now record a small section of audio.
Create a guide with instructions to explain to someone how to set up and record using and audio work station.
You need to know:
· How to set up an audio interface.
· How to mic up an instrument to be recorded.
· How to set up GarageBand.
· How to set up GarageBand to be able to record.
· How to record and how to make sure you get the best recording.
29/3/21 - L/O: To be able to understand what multi-tracking is.
As you have learnt in the previous lesson(s). You have looked at microphone placement. About where the best place to record the instruments is. This week we are going to look at how we can record more than one instrument at a time.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/music-ks3-gcse-multi-track-recording/zmhhf4j - Have a watch of the video and then answer the following questions:
What is multi-track recording?
Which order did they record the instruments?
What do they do once they have recorded all of the instruments?
What is the point of this next process?
Next we are going to look at how to do this on Garageband:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_4urswckRo
If you have access to garageband, have a go yourself. Can you set up 2 tracks to record? Have a go at recording 2 tracks, whether you record them one at a time or whether you record both at the same time.
Extension task:
Can you sent up a drum kit and drum kit microphones, enough tracks for this to happen on Garageband and have a go at recording the drum kit all at once?
If you do not have access to garageband, create a how to guide, describing how to set up microphones for a drum kit. How many microphones do you need? Where do you place them? are there different ways of mic'ing up a drum kit?
Many thanks,
Mr Ince

8/3/21 - L/O: To be able to research how to set up an instrument to be recorded.
Now we know what inputs and outputs are, we are going to look at where to place microphones in the best place to get the best recording.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_crXXbuEKE - watch this if you would like to know more about how microphones work.
Instruments can be recorded by microphones in different places. Do some research on one of the following instruments, of how to mic them up:
electric guitar
piano
saxophone
Create a poster/ leaflet showing the best way to do this.
Challenge task:
Now have a look at how to mic up a drum kit and create a diagram showing how this can be done.

1/3/21 - L/O: To be able to identify audio software/ audio input and outputs.
Last week you looked at general inputs and output and what they are.
This week we are going to investigate what a input and an output for music technology is considered as.
An input is something that sends a signal in to a device. For example: microphones
An output is something that sends a signal out. For example: speakers
Have a research and create two posters. One for music technology that shows the different inputs you can have and one poster showing the different outputs.
Have a great week.
