Tech Department

Mr. Tom Atkinson

Going backwards, as I sometimes I feel I always am, I was the Director of Technology at Bridgewater-Raritan for eight years, the same at Pearl River for eight years before that, the something-or-other in charge of IT for the R&D Department at Block Drug in Jersey City, an IT Specialist in Brooklyn, a teacher at several high schools in NJ & NY, a graduate student, and part-time waiter, hospital attendant, soup kitchen volunteer, and ne'er do well. I just want Bloomfield to be successful. Ask me anything, anytime. I only want to help.

Mr. Jerry Pullins

Mr. Pullins is the Manager of Technology, graduate of Bloomfield High School class of '81 [i.e, 1981].

Obtained his A+ certification and Microsoft Certified Professional license.

Employed since October 1990 by the Board of Education, built and designed the Bloomfield Board of Education's first wide area network across all buildings in 1995, since then the network has evolved to a private fiber network monitored by Sunesys with a complete wireless campus using Meraki access points.

Mr. Pullins maintains our Cisco, VMware, Meraki and Voice Infrastructure, oversees daily operations of the help desk and work assignments for district technicians, inventory and ordering.

Mr. Bob Cece

Bob works part-time on "imaging," updating, and managing the approximately 5,000 laptops, Chromebooks, Chromium-based laptops, and PC's within the District. He manages 'automatic' updates of software and operating systems. Until he purposefully broke the drip coffee machine, so that he would not have to make the morning coffee, he used to do that. He is a former Captain of the Bloomfield Police Department and in addition to being a great, largely self-taught technologist, he is a good barometer of feeling and opinion within the community.

Mr. Kevin Milligan

Starting out as a Printer technician refurbishing HP Printers then moved into networking for a company in NY setting up temporary networks and audio visual equipment eventually moved onto the event team traveling to different locations to setup and maintain the network equipment for 9yrs after being tired of the constant plane rides and sleepless night I applied for this position 7yrs ago and now I setup, configure and maintain this Cisco Meraki hybrid network and I love it, besides being in a school district leading in technology the staff employed here are amazing to work with. I love my job.

Mr. Tim Jones

I’ve been in the district for sometime now and value the warm atmosphere of family that the technology department embraces. I enjoy troubleshooting technical issues both hardware and software and am familiar with many well known operating systems such as ChromeOS, Windows, MacOS, and some of the more popular Linux distros like Unbuntu and Mint. Also, I like discovering new free software tools with a premium feel.

I would classify myself as a technologist who is also a budding creative. I enjoy drawing and painting in digital media using various products by Adobe, Affinity, Corel and emerging SaaS(software as a Service) programs like Gravit.IO, which was recently acquired by Corel. If you look around the district, you just might see something I created floating around.

Mr. Kamau Cooper

William Paterson Graduate class of 14’ with a BA in Communication and Media Production. During that time he worked as a technical support analyst for Smarsh; a data archiving company on Wall Street for 3 years. Hobbies include bowling, biking, camping and is also a freelance video editor.

(NB Coop was just married this summer - still married as of end of August- so please congratulate him!)

Mr. John Sabol

My experience with computers began as an end user working in the graphic design field where I became proficient working with various types of software and hardware. At the same time I was teaching myself how to maintain and repair the systems and equipment I worked on, and it was not long before my skills as a technician was as in demand as my design skills. Finding a tremendous joy in solving problems and helping others, I decided to make the move to pursue the support side of technology working as a Field Technician and Systems Administrator installing, configuring, troubleshooting and repairing computers, printers and networking equipment. I am excited to now be a member of the Bloomfield Board of Education’s Technology Department and to have the opportunity to help support the education program in this town. The technology team is an amazing group of people. I have never felt more welcomed into a position.

Mr. Kwame Mavour (KJ)

Kwame is a college grad who has been holding the fort on Chromebook repair with remarkable dedication and facility.

Mr. Michael Heerwig

I worked at ShopRite for 4 years eventually leading to a customer service position, at the same time studying criminal justice at Essex Community College. Eventually, I transferred to William Patterson University where I currently study Computer Information and Technology. I began working for the technology department in May of 2018 I am very grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow my skills in a very friendly and professional environment.

Mr. James Valena

James graduated from Bloomfield HS in June of 2015. He is currently attending Seton Hall University and NJIT, majoring in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. He began working in the tech department as a summer helper in July of 2015 through a recommendation from his Co-op instructor at BHS. He was then hired as a part time technician in September 2016. He is grateful for his job and enjoys working here and is learning from the more experienced techs.

Mr. Travis Manning

I am a Bloomfield High school graduate now pursuing a degree in Computer Information Technology at William Paterson University. I started working with the Bloomfield Board of Education two summers ago as a part-time technician, however, I was rehired to do tech work after school as well. Over the past two years, I have come to learn various skills such as networking, repairs, and general troubleshooting. However, the people of this department are whom I have much to be thankful for

Ms. Renee Ajaeb

Ms. Ajaeb was formally the secretary for Special Education at the Early Childhood Center at Forest Glen.

Mrs. Karina Figueroa

Mrs. Figueroa will join the Tech Department beginning September 1. Here are just a few of her more recent certifications -

WE ARE VERY LUCKY TO HAVE HER ON THE TEAM!! Please welcome her!!!
