Social Studies curriculum in Bloomfield’s schools follows the mission and vision articulated in the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) as it equips our students with the “knowledge, skills, and perspectives needed to become active, informed citizens and contributing members of local, state, national, and global communities in the digital age”.

To succeed in this mission, the Social Studies Department focuses on building content knowledge, strengthening key skills, and fostering conceptual understanding of and critical thinking about the world and our place in it.

Since Social Studies is connected to Literacy and cross-curricular with ELA, we frequently read and write, utilizing a variety of primary and secondary sources. With increasing access to digital learning tools, we use tech platforms and applications to build digital skills and to promote college and career readiness.
