In grades 5-8, students explore both US and World History. United States History focuses on the events, personalities, and changes that shaped the country from Native Americans and the New Republic to Westward Expansion and the destruction of the Civil War.

6th graders study focuses on the Ancient World and covers: Prehistoric times; Mesopotamia and the Fertile Crescent; Egypt and Nubia; India and China; Greece and Persia. Students explore political systems, social hierarchies, religious beliefs, and technological innovations.

7th graders continue their study with: Rome and the Fall of Empire; Dark Ages and Medieval Europe; Medieval Middle East and Africa; Medieval South and East Asia; Pre-Columbian America. Students investigate the rise of major world religions, international and civil wars, economic and social segregation, and the development of visual art, architecture, and music.

With the skills gained in these courses, students will be able to evaluate how cultures and events interacted to produce new ideas, technology, and movements: essential skills for becoming a citizen in a globalized world.
