The Kindergarten drew these adorable dogs! We drew our dogs step by step and then we shaded with pencil. The class was amazed how they can get pencil to move across the surface, and how shading made our dogs look real!
The first grade looked at the beautiful work of Vincent Van Gogh. We talked about the colors he used and how the petals seemed gold in some places. These are painted with tempera and the backgrounds were colored with oil pastel. I love these!!
The second grade used oil pastel to shade these moonlit pumpkins. We talked about how to draw the lines of the pumpkin on a curve to create the illusion that the pumpkins are 3D. Beautiful work!!
The third grade created these spooky trees using sharpie markers and charcoal. We discussed value and how to create different values on a white surface with charcoal. These are incredible!!
The fourth grade looked at the Pop Artist, Wayne Theibaud for inspiration. We discussed how to use color as a shadow, not only black. Each gumball was shaded using a highlight, midtone and shadow. This was a large undertaking, but they really did a wonderful job!
The fifth grade really impressed me with these dragons. We started with a sketch, and then they used watercolor paints to shade the dragons. Lastly, they used acrylic paint to create a flame for the dragon.
The sixth grade studied the cave paintings of the Stone Age. We discussed the materials used by these ancient artists and the subject matter. The classes then used oil pastel on these torn paper masterpieces.
