We love kids!
. . .but professional learning days and young children do not often mix well. Children younger than five should not be in attendance with their parent at any summer or school year (during the day) professional learning sessions. Children five years old and up may only be in attendance with prior instructor permission. Some sessions are not conducive to having a young child present. Please reach out to the instructor listed, at least 24 hours in advance, if you need to bring your child to any professional learning session.
Additionally, you must have principal / supervisor premission as well.
The "Extra Trainings" videos from Vector Solutions/Safe Schools may provide snippets of good learning. However, if this is what you are choosing for your professional growth, you may not be challenging yourself to your fullest potential.
The Extra Trainings / Vector Solutions videos are not allowable professional learning for flex credits unless directed by your supervisor. This must be and exception and not a repeated occurance. The certificates do not need to go into your Professional Learning Portfolio unless directed by your supervisor.
Outside-of-district (including online) sessions require prior principal/administrator approval before they can be added into your professional learning portfolio and/or qualifiable as flex credits.
You can add the credits to your professional learning portfolio. Please indicate you had prior supervisor approval in your credit request.

We do.
What does this mean?
This means that many, if not most, of the ESC Region 11 classes offered are free to Birdville ISD educators. You'll need to establish your account with Region 11 (create a profile) and then when you add your classes to the cart for registration, it should come up as $0. If it doesn't read the fine print or ask your campus administrative assistant for assistance.
We want you to be able to take advantage of the great offerings around the DFW area. We are so fortunate to be in the middle of a plethora of amazing learning institutions. ESC Region 11 is one of those providers. Don't be afraid to register for an ESC Region 11 session.
If you want professional learning credits in your portfolio for courses you find on your own (meaning, not listed in this catalog) you must:
Ask your principal/administrator for permission to take these out-of-district sessions beforehand.
