Objectives:
After this session, participants will be able to:
Share best practices and strategies related to using AI to generate feedback for student writing or to act as an additional grader for student writing.
T-TESS Alignment:
1.2 (Data and Assessment): Tracks progress with AI-generated feedback.
2.1 (Achieving Expectations): Ensures student growth.
2.3 (Communication): Delivers clear, actionable feedback.
District Improvement Plan Alignment:
Goal 1: Supports growth through timely, personalized feedback.
Goal 2: Increases feedback efficiency.
The Newline Q Pro Series Interactive Panel’s whiteboard annotation tools let you mark up writing samples or feedback directly on the screen, making it easier to emphasize key points.
Tip in Action:
While demonstrating best practices for AI-generated feedback, use the whiteboard annotation tools to showcase how feedback can be visually enhanced. For example, display a writing sample alongside AI-generated suggestions and use the tools to highlight strengths, mark areas for improvement, or add clarifying notes. This approach reinforces the value of detailed feedback while engaging students visually.

Take an existing rubric for an assignment with example responses at various levels to use as context for the AI. Use the rubric to score several student responses.
Alternatively, if you do not have an assignment with writing readily available to practice scoring, try using one of the released STAAR rubrics along with some sample constructed responses.
Additional Released STAAR Scoring Guides are available on TEA's website.
