Hello, and welcome to our Group 5 E-Portfolio! The four of us are third-year environmental students who have a passion for protecting the planet and improving our understanding of urban planning. Over the course of this Spring 2022 semester, the four of us will be conducting online research to assemble three distinct group projects; our Class Lecture, EcoBlitz activity, and our Media Project. These three projects are very unique in their scope, and will require different skills and considerations to complete.
With regard to the content of our projects, our group shared a significant interest in the effects of nature and green infrastructure on human health and their respective societal impacts. We used this shared interest as a starting point in both our lecture and our media project. We enjoyed researching the benefits of sustainable solutions within urban planning while also highlighting the potential downfalls of them. Creating sustainable and equitable urban spaces that allow for humans and the natural environment to co-exist can be difficult. However, fully understanding the drawbacks and benefits of potential solutions is the first step in becoming experts on urban planning and urban ecology.
Our group sees value in teaching science to younger audiences. In such a pivotal time for environmental change, we must inspire the youth to be a part of the progress we need to see in our world. We aim to do this by making science fun and engaging for kids- peaking their interest so hopefully, they will continue to interact with science and the environment in their futures. Our EcoBlitz project involves a fun, interactive water cycle activity that even younger children can enjoy and learn from.
