Our EcoBlitz art table will engage young learners with the different processes of the water cycle using an engaging poster and a fun art project. Our table activity will have kids recreate the water cycle using a plastic bag, markers, water, and science!
This is our group's final EcoBlitz poster! The poster details background information on the water cycle, why the water cycle is important, and the methodology for the hands on learning activity we had at our table.
This is our group's table during our EcoBlitz tabling session! Students and community members approached the table and we asked them about their current knowledge of the water cycle. We gave a general overview of the cycle itself as well as its importance for maintaining life on earth. We then had children draw the water cycle with us and spoke briefly about each of the processes as they did so. Next, we had them spin the wheel and answer a question to test their knowledge. If they got the question correct, they were awarded a lollipop! Lastly, we gave them a take-home science experiment. The kids filled plastic ziplock baggies with "sea water" (tap water with blue food coloring) using a dropper. We told them to tape the baggie to a window they had at home and leave it for a day and that they would see condensation happen inside the bag!
Children and parents were very enthusiastic to learn about the water cycle in a hands-on and creative approach. We had so much fun interacting with the kids and getting them excited about science!
