Locker Use and Backpacks

Students are not allowed to have bags/backpacks/activity duffels in the classrooms. Students will be required to use lockers to store belongings (backpacks, purses, cell phones, etc.).  A small bag such as a purse or pack 8” x 5” or smaller is allowed for medical supplies  and personal items.  Students will not be permitted to go lockers for missing work they forgot to bring to class.

Cell Phone Policy

No cell phone use is allowed during class time. All cell phones should be put into the school provided phone storage spot or lockers during class time. They can only be used before and after school, during passing time or at lunch. Air Pods and similar devices should also be put away during class time.

Parents can call the office and messages will be relayed to students.

Attendance Matters: Each day you miss, you miss valuable discussion and listening practice.  Just making up the work online will not recreate what you missed.  It is NECESSARY that you have good attendance to improve language proficiency.

***** What is the difference between make-up work and proficiency?  While make-up work is VERY important, it does not guarantee proficiency.  In class, we have discussions,  discuss grammar, talk about culture, practice speaking, reading, listening and writing, participtate in various activities and work with partners.  Being present and being a part of class is what gets students to be proficient in German. The more classes you miss, the more likely you are to fall behind.  You cannot make-up proficiency activities from class.*******

Procedure for making up written work: You have 1 week to make up any missing work.

You must first go to the Google Doc in Google Classroom and find the date/s absent.  This will give you an overview of what we did in class!

For Credit you must complete both the yellow and green information:

If you only do the YELLOW information: Grade = 15/25

-Complete the highlighted YELLOW information  at home or if it is a worksheet, you must get it in the classroom.

YELLOW and the Green information: Grade = 25/25

-The highlighted green information must be made up with Frau Schell in the classroom during office hours.

Grade = possible 25/25

-It is your responsibility to come and get worksheets that you have missed.

Keep absences to a minimum: Attendance affects progress in all class subjects. (School related absences are included)  When you are absent, you miss vital discussions and practice.  You are required to make up all work that is missed!

HOW TO FIND THE INFORMATION!!

A 0-Grade will be in the gradebook until the work is made up.

OPT OUT POLICY

Concluding the topic of materials utilized, the following is district protocol regarding any objections to what is used or taught in class.

Required instruction (including but not limited to lessons, readings, texts, discussions, etc.) is part of our district curriculum.  In addition, students may have access to numerous optional resources such as a book club or a teacher's classroom library.  Billings Public Schools continues to follow Montana laws which state that parents have the right to request and opt-out for topics of human sexuality, or those that offend the parent's beliefs or practices.  Objections to lessons and/or materials must be brought to the teacher’s attention first through a conversation to see if the objections can be resolved by providing more information about the lesson and the intended learning objectives.  If after the dialogue an opt-out or alternative is requested, then that request will be submitted in writing using the District Alternative Material Request Form. If an objection is submitted, the teacher will then work with their building principal to select an alternative option from the appropriate course/grade level guidelines to provide the student with an independent study opportunity as allowed by state law and local policy. Those independent study opportunities will be in line to the level (resource, lesson, unit, course) of which the parent is objecting.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your student's teacher and/or principal for more information.  The District Alternative Material Request Form can be found at the following weblink: https://bit.ly/44gjUe4
