AP German and Language Exam AP German Language and Culture Exam – AP Central | College Board
SEAL OF BILITERACY & STAMP TEST: Our upper level language students at Senior High School are eligible to receive the Montana Seal of Biliteracy. The Seal of Biliteracy is a certificate that states that the recipient has functional language skills that could be used in a variety of settings. This will be very valuable for your child as they head out into the working world. The Seal demonstrates to potential employers that the bearer has enough experience in their second language to communicate with speakers of that language who patronize their businesses. Some universities are using these scores to place students in the appropriate level of the language, and granting them college credit for achieving the Seal of Biliteracy, instead of requiring them to take an AP or CLEP exam.”
Students from all three languages will be taking the STAMP Test in the spring. Recipients of the Seal will be announced at the awards ceremony in May, and the seals will also be attached to their official transcripts.
AP exam sign ups
* Students can sign up and pay their fees (exact cash or check made out to BPS) through their home high school's counseling department.
* Students are required to have an active College Board account at the time of registration. They will need to login to their account and add the exam-only join code to secure their exam when they sign up. All of your students should have already joined your AP section through the College Board site, so they should have active accounts ready to go.
SENATE BILL 99
Required instruction (including but not limited to lessons, readings, texts, discussions, etc.) is part of our district curriculum, Billings Public Schools continues to follow Senate Bill 99 as well as board policy 2310 procedure 2 which states that when selecting materials, teachers, and administrators must review their content and consider the issues of violence, profanity, prurient subject matter, cultural concerns, and historical accuracy in the selection process. Objections to lessons and/or materials must be brought to the teacher's attention in writing, using the District Alternative Material Request Form. Alternatives may be available within district guidelines. If an objection is submitted, the teacher will then select an alternative option from the appropriate course/grade level guidelines to provide the students with an independent study opportunity as allowed by state law and local policy. The approved reading list, courses, and units of study are available on the District webpage under curriculum.
Current Events in the AP Classroom:
For students to be successful on the AP Exam, they must have a broad range of information about not only the language, but also cultural differences that exist between countries. To aid in this knowledge-sharing process, I share articles from on-line news sources at the beginning of each class. For this to be most effective, the articles need to be as recent as possible. Each morning I find articles that we can use for discussion. Typically we talk about elections and politics, scientific advances, natural disasters, sports and athletes, festivals or holidays, strikes and protests, as well as news about various latino singers and artists. I filter the information I share with students that would fit under any of the following categories: violence, profanity, sexually prurient material, historically inaccurate or culturally offensive. Often students are asked to find news items to share with the class. When this is the case, their topic choices are limited to a specific topic that we are studying in class. The following links are on-line periodicals that I read to provide information to my students:

In addition to the information provided in our textbooks, students will be learning popular songs in German. Songs teach about the culture, often show some of the unique geographical features of the countries, and incorporate many idiomatic expressions that students can then use in their own work in the classroom. Videos and lyrics are screened carefully to make sure that the content is appropriate for a classroom setting. In AP, students have been exposed to many different
