A Life of Perseverance, Integrity, and Excellence
A Life of Perseverance, Integrity, and Excellence
Dr Wong Haking devoted his life to prevailing through challenge, advancing Hong Kong’s industrial development, nurturing talent, and serving the wider community. In 1980, the University of Hong Kong conferred upon him the degree of Honorary Doctor of Laws in recognition of his exceptional contributions. At the conferment ceremony, the Vice‑Chancellor remarked with gentle humour that, were a degree in “diversification” to exist, Dr Wong would be its most fitting recipient.
On 6 October 1983, the Haking Wong Building was officially opened at the University of Hong Kong. The building stands as an enduring gift to future generations and a lasting embodiment of the values that guided his life—enterprise, perseverance, and public service.
Dr Wong Haking occupies a singular place in Hong Kong’s history. As an entrepreneur, industrialist, educator, and philanthropist, he set a rare example of how personal success may be aligned with social responsibility. His legacy continues to inform and inspire, illuminating a path forward for generations to come.
