I wrote an essay stressing the importance of better mental health education in school.
I loved digging into my project. Mental illness is a huge interest of mine, seeing that I want to be a psychiatrist when I grow up. There are so many aspects of it and it can be very discouraging and lonely if you don't have a good support system. Everybody has emotions, we might as well learn how to deal with them. My hope is that whoever is reading this, when you see someone struggling with mental illness, even if you can't help them personally, (which is okay!) you can at least point them in the direction of help. The most challenging part for me was for sure staying neutral. Not adding my opinions, sharing my experiences, nothing. The most surprising thing I learned in this project is also the most sad, 50% of transgender women attempt or commit suicide. I just hope all this work will actually mean something and help someone.
