French Immersion Students through Inquiry-based learning

Our 2017-2018 TLLP Journey

This website follows our TLLP journey implementing Inquiry-based Learning in our French-immerison classrooms.

Here is a brief summary of our project plan:

We are looking at investigating the Inquiry-based learning process with our Primary, Junior and Intermediate French Immersion students. We are eager to provide opportunities for students to become “knowledge builders, capable of creative and innovative solutions to problems” (Inquiry Based Learning, Capacity Building Series, May 2016). We would like to explore what Inquiry-based learning really looks like in relation to action oriented tasks in the French language. We will explore integrating appropriate and effective technology tools (e.g., Chromebooks, iPads, coding devices). We intend to collaborate with our instructional coaches and our instructional leadership consultants in the implementation of our project and in our professional learning. We will also share our resources and learning with other French Immersion teachers who would be interested in implementing Inquiry-based Learning with their students.

* The Teacher Learning and Leadership Program (TLLP) is an annual project-based professional learning opportunity for experienced classroom teachers.

The program funds proposals from classroom teachers seeking peer leadership roles in curriculum, instructional practice or supporting other teachers. The program has three goals:

  • Create and support opportunities for teacher professional learning
  • Foster teacher leadership; and
  • Facilitate the sharing of exemplary practices with others for the broader benefit of Ontario's students.
