Math is everywhere and everyday life lends itself to great opportunities for children to observe how the skills they're learning will apply to their own life someday. Use estimating with your child while you're grocery shopping to see who can come closer to the final total or have them calculate the better buy for different brands of items. Allow your child to help with cooking or baking and discuss the different measurements for the ingredients. Most importantly, encourage them to feel positive about math no matter what your past experience provided.
Students are expected to bring home their binder each night, which contains their interactive notebook and their math notes. These resources should always be accessible to them so that if your child gets stuck, they are likely to find a similar problem in one of these resources that can help them move forward. When a student takes responsibility for their own learning by finding assistance independently, they develop essential skills for success in all areas.
