I am incredibly excited to be joining the amazing 6th-grade team as a math/science teacher for the upcoming school year and beyond. While I'm new to this specific position, this marks my 25th year teaching middle school, with most of those years spent at the Rashi School in Dedham. Having spent most of this past year serving as a building and long-term substitute at BFCCPS, I anticipate a smooth transition into this role. As a middle school teacher, I aim to help each student maximize their potential and grow as both learners and young adults. To accomplish this, I believe in setting high standards, fostering strong relationships with every student, and ensuring they know I am here to support them as they grow and develop their skills. I am a teacher who understands the important role that parents play in the education of their children and will be in regular contact with you all to both celebrate their achievements and, if needed, collaborate to help students navigate the common challenges of middle school. I can't wait to get started and look forward to connecting with you in the future.
This is my fourth year as a full time teacher. I graduated from Bridgewater State University in Spring of 2022, and have returned to BSU for my Master's degree in he spring. I hope to share my passion for Humanities with all of my future students, as these subjects truly help to make us more empathetic, well-rounded and thoughtful individuals.
Greetings,
My name is Dawn Marie Gagne Summers and I am thrilled to be starting another year at Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School. More importantly, I am thrilled to be starting the year with your child!
I am grateful to have the opportunity to share a little bit about myself. Professionally, I have a Master of Education degree in English and a Professional teaching license in Massachusetts. I have been in education over 20 years and have taught students of all abilities. Even with this experience, I still consider myself a learner! Outside of the world of academia, I live on a small plot of land with my husband, dog, and eighteen chickens. My biggest (and most expensive) hobby is gardening.
I know that all of my experience will greatly benefit you and your child. Let’s do our best to keep the doors of communication open so that your child will have an incredible year.
Hello! My name is David Joyce, I am passionate about teaching math as a creative subject, using hands-on experiments in science, and helping students become effective problem-solvers. This year marks my ninth year of teaching in special education. This is my sixth year at BFCCPS. I began my career as a special education teacher assistant,1-1 assistant and long term substitute at Milford Public Schools. In 2017, I began full-time teaching as a fourth and fifth grade inclusion teacher and liaison at Framingham Public Schools. I have an undergraduate degree in English from Salem State College and a Master's degree in Elementary Education and Moderate Disabilities licensure from American International College in Springfield. I am looking forward to getting to know and working alongside this year's families and students in the sixth grade at BFCCPS.
My name is Ms. Kayla Flaherty, and I’m truly excited to be joining the BFCCPS community as the new 6th Grade Special Education Teacher. For the past seven years, I’ve had the joy of teaching Grade 6 Social Studies and English Language Arts, and I’m so excited to begin this next chapter.
What drew me to BFCCPS is the sense of care and connection that shines through in every aspect. I’m really looking forward to getting to know and supporting our students, working closely with families and colleagues to create a warm, encouraging, and inclusive classroom environment. Helping students grow—both academically and personally—is what I’m most passionate about, and I can’t wait to get started. When I am not at school, I enjoy being outside, gardening, kayaking, fishing and spending time with a good book!
My name is Laura Whelan and am a special education inclusion teacher on the sixth grade team. This is my first year at BFCCPS. I have been an educator since 1996 in various districts and roles over the years. Most recently, I have been home with my children but am excited to be back in the classroom. I received my undergraduate degree at UMass Boston and my Master' degree at Lesley College. When I am not working with children and families, I enjoy time with my family, volunteering in my community and serving in my local government as a Town Meeting member, going to Boston and the beach.
Hi everyone! I started my journey in special education in 2017 and I've loved every moment of it! I have been fortunate enough to work in a multitude of different special education classrooms with students of all needs and abilities. I am thankful to be apart of the BFCCPS community. Whether I'm working in a small group setting or 1:1, I just really enjoy teaching and getting to know all of our students. I hope to make a positive influence in every students life. "Teaching is a work of heart". (10 points to anyone who can pronounce Wladyszewski)
Bonjour les élèves et les parents de BFCCPS! French has always been my passion, and I am excited to share my love of this language and culture with the students of BFCCPS!
I have been teaching languages at the middle school level for over 30 years, and this is my sixth year teaching at BFCCPS. I received my BA in French and Foreign Affairs at Assumption College, studied at Collège International à Cannes in southern France, and earned my MAT in French from Rhode Island College.
Besides teaching, I also love to travel, read, spend time on the Cape, and root for the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. My husband and I have raised three wonderful children, and our youngest just graduated from college last year, so they have all successfully moved out on their own and we are now empty nesters!
I am very excited to see what the year ahead will bring and to see all that we can accomplish together! Le Français est fantastique!

This will be the start of my 23rd year teaching and my 6th year at BFCCPS. I have my undergraduate degree from Marietta College and my masters degree from George Mason University.
I love reading fantasy and mystery books. I hope this year we can continue discussions on new books and classic favorites. I also really enjoy technology. I am a PLTW teacher and teach many courses during STEAM. Having kids make things from their imagination into reality is so cool. I love my job.
I am a wife and mother to 2 girls who keep me very busy at home. I enjoy being outside and love anything on the water. My favorite vacation spot is the 1,000 Islands in Upstate New York.
I hope we have a wonderful year together!
