Readiness = 15 % - Homework is given full credit based upon effort, completion, and whether or not the assignment was turned in on time. Missing or incomplete assignments count as a zero. A missing or incomplete homework assignment can be turned in late for half credit only within a week of the original due date. Each student has a Google Classroom account for each of their core content areas that they are expected to access for their assignments. Notes and homework are to be reviewed nightly, even when a quiz/test has not yet been announced. Binder and notebook checks will be conducted sporadically throughout each term to build organization and accountability.
Class Work & Participation = 20 % - This grade includes all graded assignments or activities that have been completed in class, with the expectation that it may need to be completed at home due to time constraints. This also includes, but is not limited to, following directions, effort, creativity, coming prepared to class, and actively participating in class discussions. Any assignment not finished during class time must have a return date of the next day in order to receive full credit. Assignments returned outside of the 24 hour window will receive half credit. If you completed an assignment late, the student must inform the classroom teacher via email. If a child does not turn in a class assignment it will count as a zero. Students are responsible for checking Google Classroom and acquiring any missed notes, classwork, and homework due to absences.
Quizzes = 25% - Throughout each term students will be periodically quizzed on concepts. Prior notice may not always be given for quizzes, as they are sometimes designed to quickly check in on your child’s progress. Students are allowed to make quiz corrections if they score below a 70%. If the corrections show the student has identified their mistake and reflected in writing, their score will be improved by 10% (one letter grade).
Tests / Major Projects = 40% - Your child’s test grade is based on various assessments throughout each term. In addition, some major assignments (reports, extension activities, projects) will also be weighted as a test grade. Test corrections are permitted for students who score below a 70%. If the corrections show the student has identified their mistake and reflected in writing, their score will be improved by 10% (one letter grade).
