Readiness = 10 % - This grade demonstrates a preparedness for grade six students. Binder and notebook checks are a part of this grade, which will be conducted sporadically throughout each term to build organization and accountability. The objective of this grade is to prepare students to be active participants in the classroom setting.
Class Work = 15 % - This grade includes all graded assignments or activities that have been completed in class, with the expectation that it may need to be completed at home due to time constraints. Any assignment not finished during class time must have a return date of the next day in order to receive full credit. Assignments returned outside of the 24 hour window will receive half credit. If you completed an assignment late, the student must inform the classroom teacher via email prior to the due date. If a child does not turn in a class assignment it will count as "missing," which is counted as half credit. Students are responsible for checking Google Classroom and acquiring any missed notes, classwork, and homework due to absences.
Quizzes = 25% - Throughout each term students will be periodically quizzed on concepts. Prior notice may not always be given for quizzes, as they are sometimes designed to quickly check in on your child’s progress. Students are allowed to make quiz corrections if they score below a 70%. If the corrections show the student has identified their mistake and reflected in writing, their score may increase up to a 70%.
Assessments = 35% - Your child’s assessment grade is based on various projects, tests, and essays throughout each term. Test corrections are permitted for students who score below a 70%. If the corrections show the student has identified their mistake and reflected in writing, their score may increase up to a 70%. Assessments are cumulative, and designed to gage a student's understanding of a unit as a whole, whereas quizzes are designed to show an understanding of a concept taught in a particular class.
Homework = 15% - Homework is given full credit based upon effort, completion, and whether or not the assignment was turned in on time. Missing or incomplete assignments count asA missing or incomplete homework assignment can be turned in late for half credit only within a week of the original due date. Each student has a Google Classroom account for each of their core content areas that they are expected to access for their assignments. Notes and homework are to be reviewed nightly, even when a quiz/test has not yet been announced.
