MCJROTC

The MCJROTC program's purpose is to develop informed and responsible citizens and has been very popular with our ESL students over the years! It helps build character by developing social and emotional skills through acts of citizenship and leadership. Cadets develop goal setting, problem solving, and self-discipline through activities inside and outside of the classroom. The MCJROTC leadership courses are yearlong classes. This is not a recruitment tool for the military and there is no military obligation to take this course. All uniforms, equipment, and textbooks are supplied.

Interested students should meet with their guidance counselor to discuss this program in more detail before joining.

Essex Tech "After Dark" Program

The Essex Tech's "After Dark" Program is a two-year program beginning in a student’s third (junior) year. Beginning in 2020-21, BHS partnered with Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School (ENSATS) to offer a program where students complete a combination of academic courses and technical training in one of the vocational programs listed below.

Students would attend their academic classes at Beverly High School in the morning and their vocational classes at ENSATS in the afternoon. Lunch and transportation to and from ENSATS would be provided. Additionally, the Essex Tech program offers ESL support to EL students during the program.

This is a wonderful opportunity to earn both a high school diploma and the training necessary to work in an in-demand (and often well-paying) vocation after graduation. Grades aren't as important as a student's hard work, dedication, and a nearly perfect attendance record at BHS. Reliable attendance is not only an expectation of employment but is also required to receive the hours necessary to get licensed to work in the field of the vocational program the student chose. Therefore, students should also be committed to complete any additional requirements for licensure in their chosen program after graduation. Interested students should meet with their guidance counselor to determine eligibility and develop their schedule.

Senior REACH Internship

REACH is an internship program that provides an eligible senior (4th year) with the opportunity to investigate a career, explore an interest, invent a project of his or her design, or extend an existing school project. The senior will be granted permission to leave Beverly High School and work only on his or her internship from the Monday after April Vacation for four weeks. The senior is required to seek a guide, a specialist who can provide training and support with his or her internship. In this winning combination, the student gains valuable real life experience and the guide benefits from the efforts of the student and any project produced. At the end of the internship, students show what they have learned at a R.E.A.C.H. internship fair. Please visit the BHS page with some videos of what this looks like.

Current EL students will work with their guidance counselor to find the best fit for their internship and to help with applications and deadlines. Students should start planning what they would like to do or where they would like to complete their REACH internship early in their senior year. Applications and requests for location will start early in their last semester. More information can also be found here.

Project RISE

Are you interested in going to college/university? RISE Academy at Northeastern University and Endicott College is a five-week summer program that prepares traditionally underserved, highly motivated students in grades 7-12 in the Greater Boston area for the rigors of higher education (university) and the workforce.

The summer program focuses on areas that will enhance student performance and their eventual attendance in college. RISE Academy’s focus is unique in that it seeks to increase the number of college-ready students from marginalized communities and systems to pursue university study with financial assistance and academic support where needed.  RISE Academy students have the added benefit of being exposed to world-class institutions of higher education. Northeastern and Endicott are committed to cultivating a pipeline of diverse, talented students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds in Boston and the North Shore. The program is tuition free and includes meals and transportation. Students pay with their attendance and their hard work! Check out the official flyer from BHS and more information on the program here.

Interested students should contact their Guidance Counselor for more information.
