Is the Information Current?
Is That Important to You?
It is important to consider how up-to-date information is on the web. Outdated information may remain accessible for many years. The user should attempt to determine the currency of web pages: (3 Steps)
1. Check to see if there is a date on the page (usually at the bottom) indicating the date of posting (when the information was placed on the page), or last update (when the information was last revised).
2. Click on the page links. Do they work, or are they broken links? Broken links may indicate a page that has not been updated in a while.
3. As you look over the information, is there any indication that it is out of date? For example, does the site refer to a past event as an “upcoming” event, or omit an important event that has occurred?
The following require up-to-date information:
Presentation of statistics, graphs, and charts
News items and current events
Science, technology, and other quickly changing fields
Check the following pages for dates and decide which are current:
