Internet – Worldwide network of computers
World Wide Web - Network of internet sites that offer text, graphics, sound, and video through hyperlinks
Browser – A program used to view the World Wide Web. Examples are Microsoft EDGE, Safari, Google Chrome, Firefox
Search Directory – A list of websites organized by web experts into categories
Search Engine – A program to help find web pages, using programs called “spiders” that search for information based on keywords used in the search. Examples are Google, Bing, Yahoo
Online Database – An online resource that contains searchable articles and information from print sources such as magazines, newspapers, reference books, and images, Examples are Gale, EBSCO, and Elibrary. Libraries pay money to subscribe to databases, which usually require users to log in. They are very reliable because the information comes from published books, magazines, and other sources. For example, a database might contain the online version of a print article from Sports Illustrated magazine.
